chad360 (aka "my" Chad) noticed a bike cop riding on the grass today at Sylvester Park.  He came up and complained about it.  (Because it's not good for the grass!)  She told him that they have the right to do anything they want.  Can that possibly be true?

On a related note, I'm mooching off of *somebody's* wifi while I work on an online pledge/boycott card for Plan B Oly.  Thanks, whoever you are. :)

rules of the road?

my understanding is that in state parks it's illegal to ride anywhere off a marked trail.  and in downtown, it's illegal to ride on the sidewalks.  but we were mostly hoping that they'd be respectful of the space by riding on the path or sidewalk at least!  other cyclists (including us) were walking our bikes on the paths & sidewalks.

For the record, it is perfectly legal to ride  your bike on the sidewalks or the streets in downtown or elsewhere in the City.  Just remember if you are on the sidewalk, pedestrian laws apply to you and if you are in the street, the rules of the road apply to you.

OMC 12.60.100 -- no bikes, horses or motorcycles can travel in parks except on paths (altho as previously noted, Sylvester Park is a state property)

...and this is really annoying: I swear I'd read somewhere (brochure? pamphlet? online?) that the "central business district" was the one location where riding on the sidewalk was disallowed.

I try to keep very much aware of the bicycle laws, and beyond that, how to be safe and polite as a cyclist.  (since I ride almost everywhere!)

I can't imagine that they'd tell you that you couldn't ride on sidewalks. what would you do with small children? They certainly can't ride in traffic. Speaking of which, Mr. Olycop, is there an age limit for riding your bike in traffic?
