The one I can see the smoke from is out on cooper point. I can see the smoke from my office in downtown. I'm not sure of the address, someone on the Olympia said it was near "Anchor Lane above the bay." The second one was a little earlier today in Lacey near Hawks Praire Golf Club King5 has a video: It says it was at this address: 5538 Crestview Loop NE Let's hope no one was hurt.

I went to the Olympia Web Design Meetup last night and heard a great presentation on Drupal (the system that OlyBlog runs on?). There was also a discussion of having the group help a local organization with their website. I thought of OlyBlog because it's a great local website and runs on Drupal. If OlyBlog is interested the group may be able to help improve the website. I encourage the folks involved with the technical side of OlyBlog to sign up for the meetup and attend the next meeting: Meetup: http://webdesign.meetup.com/507/ May meeting: http://webdesign.meetup.com/507/calendar/7703770/

I've got some questions about OlyBlog:
How often do the "Docents" turn over? How are the Docents selected? I've been reading this thing for a while but I'm still a little unclear on what OlyBlog is and how it's run.
Also who is in charge of the technical aspects behind OlyBlog? I get an error every time I post or write a comment.
Lastly. Comments are screened before they are posted?? That seems pretty authoritarian to me. Why not just screen the comments for spam after the fact? I understand taking off comments that are straight up threats or hate, but other than that why are the editors of this website being censors? Is this a place for free speech and open discourse or does this site represent the view points of a minority of editors? I participate in a lot of social media sites, very few feel the need to moderate comments before they are posted. Even blogs that get hundreds of thousands of readers per day don't moderate before posting.

Is anyone coworking in Olympia? I see a lot of people typing away at their laptops in the coffee shops. I'm interesting in finding a shared office space with some other people. What do you think? Are you ready to stop working out of your house? |
