It was sometimes informative, sometimes fun, and always interesting for the few weeks I've been here. I'll dare say I've learned a couple things, and perhaps some of my words didn't leave everyone's second ear.
» I've read posts from, and had challenging conversations with, many interesting and valuable people. I'd like the opportunity to meet most of you one of these days (yes even Olycop, provided it's not over me forgetting to get my tabs soon.) People whose stance on such issues as flag burning, grafitti and pirate radio had me shaking my head in disbelief also had stances on other issues where I couldn't help but admire them. However there's one in particular whose maturity must have washed away in the recent rains. His sense of righteousness, his superior attitude concerning himself, his condescension and outright snobbery on those unlike himself makes for an unwelcome environment. Normally I'd forget about it, not give him a moment's thought, but in this house it's impossible. That's life, and there's plenty of other houses to play in. Why waste my brain cells banging my head on the brick wall that is his "tolerance"? So long - farewell - auf wiedersehen - amen.

ah crap
Submitted by enpen on Thu, 12/28/2006 - 11:41pm.I have no idea whether or not you'll even read this, Merwyn, but this is the only road I know to try so: I don't think this is a waste of your time, because I think that one of your premises is incorrect. While Rick may have started OlyBlog and certainly pays the vast majority of its costs, nobody gets kicked off and he's posting as an individual in the OlyBlogging Olympia community. If I'm not mistaken his attempt to docentize people into actual responsibilities is likewise his attempt to make the fact that this is our house, not his house, more apparent.
Here's my analogy for the night: One of my closest friends in the entire world just happened to genetically land himself in a brawler's body. This has presented him with two sorts of problems. The first have to do with people getting liquored/drugged/egoed up and deciding they need to prove themselves by starting a fight with him (the stories I can tell). The second have to do with people freaking out whenever he gets upset. When he gets angry people get frightened. When he gets in arguments people act like he's threatening them. I see the same dynamic happening with Rick on this Blog. Rick speaks and a lot of people react as if it's the official voice of OlyBlog. We are the official voice of OlyBlog. Rick is a financially generous hyper participatory member.

Don't login for the next 5 days, but continue to read Olyblog (delete your cookies to clear your cached credentials). Observe, moderate with yourself, write your response in Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad -> Enter), not in the Comment field. Don't actually post it, though. Delete it...
This therapy worked wonders for uncovering 'The Olympian's haloscan forum syndrome (TOHFS)'. I'm better now.
