"What changed in the US with Hurricane Katrina was a feeling that we have entered a period of consequences..." Al Gore I was really blown away by Al Gore's movie An Inconvenient Truth and we have had some discussion about it here on Olyblog. I know that Al and his concerns won't really be seen as all that local until the ocean levels start rising and Heritage Park becomes Olybog, but I have to blog this thing. All politics is local, right? The Draft Gore 08 project is underway. I will probably be joining as a member pretty soon, and may volunteer to help here in this Congressional District. I was early with the Dean campaign in Lewis County in 2002-2003, so I guess I am early with Gore this time around. ![]() "It is difficult to get a man to understand something if his salary depends upon him not understanding it." Do you really.....
Submitted by Norm on Sat, 07/01/2006 - 4:31am.Do you really want to embarrass the man twice?
Nixon's the one

Well, he won the last time
Submitted by Mike on Sat, 07/01/2006 - 8:37am.I think it's going to become apparent over the next two years that we have in fact entered the period of consequences for global warming. I understand there's some unusually high water somewhere back east, and floridians home insurance is going through the roof, New Orleans is still cleaning up after Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Fema. If that is correct, it just keeps coming, the draft Gore will pick up power faster then a melting glacier and he will be the right man at the right time to help this country use its knowhow to retool to lead the world to mitigage the impact of global warming.
Plus, we get that crazy chick, Tipper, in the bargain. Darth Cheney would also make a good president, I suppose? Rummy for VP? maybe Wolfowitz?
Oh come now
Submitted by Norm on Sat, 07/01/2006 - 8:44am.he didn't win last time. You don't win unless you are awarded the prize. He didn't get the job, he didn't win, it's all ancient history now. Tipper seems nice enough, and although I hate admitting it, I would probably vote for Mr. Gore before I would Mr. Cheney. He gives me the creeps.
It's been a long time, but
Submitted by Mike on Sat, 07/01/2006 - 11:50am.I would be happy to see the electoral college disbanded. Nobody has graduated in forever and it's a completely unnecessary and potentially troublesome device. I think in the age of peak oil and global warming it may be time to put an environmentalist in the WH. I would consider voting for a repub if they were an environmentalist. The last republican I voted for was Clinton and I never felt good about those votes.
Cheney is pretty attractive if you like snarling types and he is supposed to be fun on a hunting trip. I noticed that the press reported that his recent physical showed his heart condition to be stable. It took two cardiologists to find the Cheney heart and it had clearly atrophied, but it's stable.
Just in case you missed it....
Submitted by Norm on Sat, 07/01/2006 - 12:04pm.the only person who wins is the one walks away with the prize. Last I heard Mr. Gore was not Mr. President he was Mr. Moviemaker. Bush won, ancient history, call it what you will.
Clinton....republican....my head hurts now, am I missing something here?
I've never liked Cheney, I won't make comments about him, but I certainly don't like him.
I understand you're upset
Submitted by The Fire Inside on Sun, 07/02/2006 - 2:53am.I understand you're upset that SCOTUS intervened (and did so by trumping the Florida Supreme Court). I even think that the Florida Supreme Court's decision to continue counting should have been the standing order.
But stole the election?
This would imply that he was obviously not the winner.
Everything that I've read regarding post-election studies have basically stated that the election could have gone either way, depending on which standard you wanted to use for counting a vote.
I think the most shocking thing to come out of that election is how many people can't follow simple directions.
I have to vote absentee which is more "difficult" (I use "difficult" in the loosest of terms) than actually going to the ballot box and have never had a problem.
And how do I know I haven't had a problem? I take a little initiative and call the County Auditor's Office about a week after I mail in my ballot.
"The danger is not that a particular class is unfit to govern. Every class is unfit to govern."
There was a lot of problems
Submitted by Mike on Sun, 07/02/2006 - 3:48am.Normie - I just like to suggest that Clinton for all his desire to be an FDR stature president just stumbled so badly that he really wasn't a democratic president of any program. He mainly presided over an uneasy, but economically productive political stalemate between the WH and Congress. The most notable thing about his presidency was the fiscal direction which was largely driven by the republican congress. He abolished "welfare as we know it" and didn't do much more that I can recall.
Wasted opportunity - all that charisma and communication skill and he keeps using it to get laid (or something, I never figured out his sexuality or his politics). Have a cup of coffee, rub the temples and your head will ease up.
The Real Gore
Submitted by Phil Owen on Sat, 07/01/2006 - 5:41am.Had Gore really let loose in his campaign, the way he did in this movie, he would have won the election. I mean, who woulda thunk that Al Gore could be funny?!
I'm not much of a fan of the Democratic Party... but I think Al should give it another shot. I'd vote for him.
Ok Phil...
Submitted by Norm on Sat, 07/01/2006 - 6:01am.if you thought he was funny I'll break down and go see the movie. I still don't think I'll vote for him unless he comes back a little more towards center. I was actually one of those people who was pissed at Bush for not signing the Kyoto pact ( I can't think of the word now ). I REALLY think that we need to focus on helping out the environment. Even if we aren't the biggest contributing factor to global warming ( I do think we are though ) I don't see how becoming less dependent on oil and trying to cut down on toxic emissions can be a bad thing. It's also not that I don't agree with Mr. Gore on a few issues. He just happens to have a bad track record on one issue that happens to be my #1 issue. Hopefully he decides to become a little more moderate with that issue, I'd love to vote Democrat again.
My curiosity is
