Talk about a rush to judgment

That poor kid.  So, I guess this means the real child rapist is still at large?

Aye, it sounds like he was a poor kid long before he was arrested though. Given some of the material found in his living space he was not mentally well at all, and could be seen as a suspect for child (well anything, rape, murder, etc.). Hopefully he gets the help he needs.

What I don't get, is the fact that they picked him up, and he didn't seem to match the girls description AT ALL. Same height and build I suppose, but she said her assailant was brown skinned, or really tan, and had short hair with a goatee. Then we come across this guy who looks like casper, and has long black hair. Obviously a suspicious guy, but unless the girl REALLY didn't get a good look at him he is obviously not the person she described.

The timing and front page

The timing and front page coverage of the "homeless rapist" may have been politically effective against Camp Quixote and legitimate elevation and airing of concerns of the homeless.

I give the Zero credit for running the DNA story on the front page.

And Janet B is right, there's seems to be a rapist at large and the trail is colder because a man who did not fit the description of the alleged assailant was conveniently found and arrested.  Good story for newspaper sales.  Good story for folks who want the homeless demonized.  Unring that bell.
