A great big thanks to Enpen for this. This is Sep 2004 btw.

Here's a short snip from the article:

"This latest ad from Moveon PAC is about as misleading as it can be. Through words, graphics and sound effects, it invites viewers to think that the expiration of the ban on 19 semiautomatic assault weapons will allow people legally to buy fully automatic machine guns that can fire 'up to 300 rounds per minute.' That's false."

"Through words, graphics and sound effects, it invites viewers to think..."

As soon as I saw this, Rick's recent post "Politics without TV" immediately popped into my head..

The decentralized nature of the internet + the technical ability for any individual to make a piece of media propaganda that is far more convincing than what the PR Firms working for Moveon.org or the NRA can come up with..(See the rise of the 911 truth movement..) spells doom for the traditional broadcast propaganda avenues..

We are certainly in for some *good times*...

To be fair....

I should also point out that I don't trust half of what the NRA says either. Sorry NRA, I'm glad you fight for my rights but sometimes y'all remind me of the high school drama queen.

Sincerely,

Norm

Cold snap predicted for Hell-Crenshaw agrees with Norm

This might be the proverbial cold day in hell.  I'm going to agree with Norm on a gun issue.  I don't like Moveon's spin at all.  This type of fear mongering does nothing to create true understanding on issues.  I fear, however, that we live in an age where fear mongering is the only tool people on either side of an issue have at their disposal.  I would like to see a little truth for a change.  It seems to me that for those constructing the political ads that they almost seem to want to distort and lie when the truth actually sounds better and will make a better case for them, but maybe that is only amongst the more reasonable of the population.  Maybe fear mongering is what the majority wants.  It is easy to grasp.  It polarizes, and I guess it works, for both sides.
