Well after all of that standing up for police bit I sat down and did what I do almost ever saturday at 8pm. I watched COPS. I can be mad as hell and frustrated with the world but there is something about that show that just makes me smile. Anyone out there have a tv show that provides this level of release?

"Cops" doesn't provide

"Cops" doesn't provide release, but I would be extremely curious to see the demographics of the people who watch it. I can't tell you how many college-aged individuals I know (including myself) who can't turn it (even when it's on F/X, Spike, or CourtTV). Actually, I would say there's some sort of link between it being on Spike and the people who watch it.

I think someone I know would call it "living the dream" (as it is probably the dream job, next to professional athlete, of a large percentage of males).

Dunno, everytime I watch it

Dunno, everytime I watch it I'm all grins.

disinformation

A friend of mine makes a pretty convincing case for COPS being a major source of disinformation.  The bad guy is always caught and is usually an idiot.

"If you are a dreamer, come in. If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar, a hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer. If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire, for we have some flax-golden tales to spin. Come in! Come in!"

I think Lakewood stopped

I think Lakewood stopped allowing the show to film with the Pierce County Sheriff's Department. If you watch enough episodes, you can see why. There's about a million episodes with deputies chasing people in their city.

I've seen many articles crediting "COPS" as being the first reality show.

It's funny you should

It's funny you should mention that. It is entertainment after all right? Ever ride-a-long I've ever been on has been nothing compared to the show. The one thing that holds true though, every ride I've done has had at least one, one complete dumbass who ends up getting caught and is a total idiot. So if you figure that almost ever officer, gets just one idiot a week, and you have multiple film crews following officers and you edit the filming to only include the idiots, you end up with a show that's just the cream of the crop morons from around the nation.

This last episode an officer pulls up to a couple, and tells the guy, "get down on the ground!" he immediately hands off a tissue with a small stem coming out of it ( I can see this through a camera mind you ) to the girl who he is with, and the cop says, "Drop that and step away from it!" She proceeds to walk a few feet away and throws it in the trash and tries to keep walking. He yells at her to stop and sit down, so she does. In the meantime he's wrestling with this guy who refuses to lay down on the ground and put his hands behind his back. Once he's cuffed he walks over to the girl and says, "What in the world do you think you are doing?" ( keep in mind there is a gigantic friggin camera and a CREW filming all of this ) she tells him, "I was just throwing away the tissue he handed me.". The officer is obviously not amused, cuffs her and looks into the trash can, and BEHOLD, it's empty except for a pipe inside of a white tissue. He says, "That's not mine" she says, "I thought it was just a tissue".

I think it's well known that the show only pulls the footage that will be interesting, but by God there are enough idiots out there to keep the show going after how many years now?

These aren't my pants.I

These aren't my pants.

I think that's the best line I've seen used on the show.

Even a book by that title

Actually

An old police line "we don't catch the smart ones" is kind of true.

"The strongest reason to retain the right to keep and bear arms is to protect against tyranny in government." Thomas Jefferson.

Simpsons

I don't watch TV much if at all anymore, but Simpsons usually always got me relaxed and laughing.

I have to wonder why on COPS the bad guys always have their shirt off, or at some point somehow lose their shirt. Maybe this somehow connects with the These aren't my pants! routine.

COPS as disinformation........I can believe that one.

Cops Theme Lyrics

Cops
Lyrics by Inner Circle

Bad boys, whatcha want, whatcha want,
Whatcha gonna do when sherrif John Brown come for you.
Tell me, whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do? Yeahhh?

Bad boys bad boys
Watcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do
when they come for you
Bad boys, bad boys
Watcha gonna do, watcha gonna do
when they come for you

When you were eight
And you had bad traits
You go to school and you learn the golden rule
So why are you acting like a bloody fool
If you get hot you must get cool

Bad boys bad boys
Watcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do
when they come for you
Bad boys, bad boys
Watcha gonna do, watcha gonna do
when they come for you

You chuck it on that one
You chuck it on this one
You chuck it on mother and
You chuck it on you father
You chuck it on you brother and
You chuck it on you sister
You chuck it on that one and you chuck it on me

Bad boys bad boys
Watcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do
when they come for you
Bad boys, bad boys
Watcha gonna do, watcha gonna do
when they come for you

Bad boys bad boys
Watcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do
when they come for you
Bad boys, bad boys
Watcha gonna do, watcha gonna do
when they come for you

Nobody naw give you no break
Police naw give you no break
Soldier man-a give you no break
Not even you idren naw give you no break

Bad boys bad boys
Watcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do
when they come for you
Bad boys, bad boys
Watcha gonna do, watcha gonna do
when they come for you

Bad boys bad boys
Watcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do
when they come for you
Bad boys, bad boys
Watcha gonna do, watcha gonna do
when they come for you

Why did you have to act so mean?
Don't you know you're a human being,
Born of a mother with the love of a father,
Reflections come and reflections go
I know sometimes - you want to let go, hey, hey, hey
I know sometimes - you want to let go, wohh!

Bad boys bad boys
Watcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do
when they come for you
Bad boys, bad boys
Watcha gonna do, watcha gonna do
when they come for you

Your too bad.

Your too good.

Your too bad

Your too good.

Bad boys bad boys
Watcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do
when they come for you
Bad boys, bad boys
Watcha gonna do, watcha gonna do
when they come for you

You chuck it on that one
You chuck it on this one
You chuck it on mother and
You chuck it on you father
You chuck it on you brother and
You chuck it on you sister
You chuck it on that one and you chuck it on me.

Bad boys bad boys
Watcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do
when they come for you
Bad boys, bad boys
Watcha gonna do, watcha gonna do
when they come for you

Think they're getting a ton

Think they're getting a ton on royalties from it or FOX just bought the rights to the song? Or maybe an alternative? My friend and I were wondering this the other day, since the song is synonymous with the show.

Refreshing?

Cops, refreshing? I think that sitting in front of a boob tube for a half an hour watching cops would make me prone to hyper-tension.

the Media of the Mass Age

I am certain that Fox runs COPS for very specific political reasons.  Without a doubt the show is popular among certain demographics.  Not having sat through an entire program, and only picking up snipets while surfing through the channels, my impression is that if you have seen a couple of episodes you have seen them all.  Not sure how many years this show has been on the air but due to the repetitive nature of the programming and the targeted demographics I can only conclude that the show is designed to deliver a specific message to a specific demographic.  The continuious use of repitition for a prolonged time is your clue.  Just wondering what it is that Fox is trying to accomplish?  If we were exposing Iraqui prisoners to this program we would be accused of torture.

"I would make it impossible for the covetous and avaricious to utterly impoverish the poor. The rich can take care of themselves."

Not just Fox, it's been

Not just Fox, it's been picked up by other channels also. Older episodes but still quality telvision if you ask me. I've always thought that every episode was different ( except repeats ) sure it's the same types of crimes but it's always a different person, and usually a different department.
