Olympia Coffee Roasting Company's Cherry Street Cafe is open and ready for business. I've talked the powers that be into giving Oly Blogger's 50% off their drinks for the next two days during our "Soft Opening" period. Just mention Oly Blog and the baristas will adjust the price accordingly.
The address is 108 Cherry Street in downtown Oly.

![]() If you happen to see a few coffee roasters out on the streets this weekend smile and say hi. Don't ask me how you'll know one when you see them but they'll be around as Olympia Coffee Roasting Co. & Roast Magazine are sponsoring the Northwest Roaster's Meet this weekend.

Well its another Friday night and if you aren't at McMenamins tonight there is some great music about town. Eastside Club is hosting the Blackberry Bushes and Head for the Hills. I hear Mud Cat is playing at the Iron Rabbit as well. Both are magnificent local music options.

Well hot off the AP press is a fairly nice article about the high end home espresso machine market. http://www.theolympian.com/105/story/61287.html
» What the Olympian missed is the fact that one of the most renowned and respected resources and companies dealing in such goods is right here in Oly. EspressoParts.com, Espresso Parts, Espresso Parts NW, EPNW, is where I work full time. However you look it up and you'll find the name plastered in all over the internet, barista blogs, and top home coffee user forums. Forums like Coffeegeek.com Home-barista.com and more. I work at Espresso Parts full time as webmaster and graphic designer. Although our forte is products, equipment parts and services for the professional coffee community at large, this is precisely what high end home users crave -- High end equipment and goods. Espresso Parts also either stocks and/or sells a number of high end espresso machines geared for the home market - none of the $69 garbage at Linens and Things or wherever. In fact I just sent a few images of some home and pro and home equipment and tools to Portland Monthly yesterday. They can find us yet the Olympian can't drive down the street? I'm not surprised and I know many of you won't be either. We need a community paper that actually cherishes and supports the local community, and maybe does a little more than regurgitate AP fluff our way.

As a veteran Flickr user and OlyBlogger I've been inspired to start an Oly/Tumwater Flickr Group for folks to post pictures of our community. All pics are welcome as long as they are Oly orientated and local. Olympians at work, at play, landscapes, still lifes, whatever just make it community orientated . Try to tag your submissions with "olympia washington" so your photos have a chance of making Olyblog's front page Flickr widget.
» http://www.flickr.com/groups/olywa/ If you are a Flickr user join up. If you aren't a Flickr user basic memberships are free. If you like to take pictures I encourage you to check it out. PS. Feel free to pass the word along.

Another Olympia coffee culture post... Again hopefully newsworthy stuff for OlyBlog readers.
» What is the NWRBC you ask? Well NWRBC stands for the Northwest Regional Barista Competition and Oly was well represented this year with 2 competitors, 2 judges, and 3 local company sponsors. This years NWRBC was held in Portland and was organized and put on by Portland companies Stumptown Coffee Roasters and The American Barista & Coffee School. It was by far the best coffee event I've ever attended and I've lost count of how many I've been to the past 5 years. This event has been the talk of the North American Coffee Community & online coffee forums alike. The whole weekend was a blast and a great showing of Northwest's pride and passion for espresso and Oly was well represented. The Oly NWRBC Competitors: 1 competitor each from Batdorf & Bronson and Olympia Coffee Roasting Co. None made the top 6 but for both competitors it was their first professional barista competition and they both made excellent showings in what is widely known to be the most difficult region to compete in.

I hope this is news worthy enough... Olympia Company Makes Good and Represents! Last week Olympia Coffee Roasting Company's Cupping Room was added to a fairly prestigious list of top espresso shops serving the best espresso at EspressoMap.com. Working in the coffee business and having been to most of the shops in the Seattle and Portland areas on said map I can personally tell you only the best of the best have been included at EspressoMap. Taken from EspressoMap.com website: "I made this map so that when travelling in North America I can find truly excellent espresso on the way. I add locations based on my own experience, insider consensus, or validation from competition-level baristi." Check out EspressoMap and check out Olympia Coffee for high quality espresso and coffee.![]()

Funny that my first blog entry up here ends up being a lost and found notice... Anyway I found these on the corner of 5th and Cherry laid out on the sidewalk last Tuesday (7/18) afternoon. Being a musician I know someone should be missing this stuff. If you know whose this might be drop a line... I'd be happy to get this back to the rightful owner even though the tunes are right down my alley. Dave |
