I just saw a breaking news story that the Reef is on fire here. I'm stuck at work so I can't go check it out. Anybody downtown? Is it true? How bad is it?

I'm getting ready for a romantic evening with my sweetie, but I'm a little distracted by some very loud booming outside. Is Valentine's Day now being celebrated with fireworks (literally)? Or is there a more sinister explanation? (I'm on the east side, by the way.)

I was talking to a friend last night about why we don't post on Olyblog anymore. I'm sure people have noticed that very few women participate in this site. She and I had similar reasons. But I would like to hear other ideas and other reasons. Of course, lots of women have just faded away, and won't respond. But it would be interesting to hear from women who may be lurking, or who may participate very seldom. Why is this such a male dominated site?

Last night at a party I heard that Storman's (which owns Ralph's and Bayview, but I don't think Bayview has a pharmacy, right?)is refusing to fill prescriptions for the morning after pill. Does anyone know if this is true? I spend a lot of money at these stores, and if this rumor is true, I guess I'm going to be spending a lot of money buying extra gas to drive out to Top Foods instead.

I went to see Capote tonight at the Capitol Theater with my ex-boyfriend. As happens so often on Thursday nights, the place was mobbed; I arrived at about 6:32 and there was still a long line stretching past the Tea Lady. My ex had volunteer passes for us both, so he was waiting for me in the lobby, talking to one of his many acquaintances. Why is it always so crowded on Thursdays? It can't be because people are desperate to win that coupon for free tea and shortbread. Is it because we're a community of procrastinators who can't be bothered to see a movie on Sunday or Tuesday if there's still a chance of seeing it on Thursday? Or maybe there's nothing on TV on Thursday nights? (I don't have a TV, so I always feel as if I suffer from a popular culture information deficit in this area.) In any case, the place was packed, but somehow the balcony managed to feel much chillier than usual tonight... I suppose that had something to do with the weather, something that even a throng of entertainment-seeking, blood-warm bodies can't affect much. |
