With the kind help of Nat from Zhonka and epersonae, we're just about ready to kick the tires on the new set up. I hope that we'll have something for people to look at early this week. There will be a new theme, with some familiar and some different elements. Stay tuned for more information.

Update: Here's the demo version. Check it out.

the test is looking good

I like the look of the test site.  I suspect it will work well on low resolution screens, you'd think a lot of people would be running high resolution but I'll tell you there are a lot of people out there with 19 inch monitors running 800x600.  The text seems a bit sharper against the background. So far the images are showing up nicely.  The formatting on the posts looks good.  I like this version, not sure what bugs are left, but it will be nice to use it in real life.  I'm hoping the posting tools are better than in the previous versions.  Come to think of it, the new version is feeling a little "wordpressy" which is not a bad thing.

getting back home might be a trick

not so easy to get to the front page as it was in the old version, and clicking on the banner graphic can do things you don't want it to do (like going to search or chat if you don't really want to go there).

Yes.

We'll have to do something about that. The menu links cover the whole header. I think we can fix it, though.

I was tweaking your CSS a

I was tweaking your CSS a bit and think this might help.

In style.css, change the padding like so:

#toolbar ul {
padding: 143px 0 0 0;
}

#toolbar a {
padding: 0 5px 3px 0;
}

#toolbar a:hover {
padding: 0 5px 3px 0;
}

Only tested this in Firefox, don't know how it'd look in other browsers.  Hope it helps.

Oh, and if it were me, I'd change the font weight in #toolbar a:hover {} to get rid of the rollover bold.  Makes for kind of an irritating experience.  But that's just my opinion.  Smile

Thanks Larry!

I agree.

We'll change that.

Style and speed become

Style and speed become increasingly important as content diminishes.  Just turn on television news if you need confirmation. Robust stability is like a great pair of legs on a talk show host, you can't get enough of that.  That's about all I know about programming websites.  Is that too word-pressy?
