[via omjp and email]

I just got word that the chief of police, city manager and another police official just stopped by Camp Qixote (the tent city set up by the PPU) about 20 minutes ago. They told all the people there that they had to vacate ASAP or else folks would get arrested and citations would be given out and all the supplies would be confiscated. No time frame was given but some folks think that it may happen before the city council meeting tonight at 7pm.

Your presence is needed whenever you can make it to Camp Qixote. It is located downtown on State Ave. behind the Brotherhood bar and across the street from the Olympia Center.

Sigh....

So much for Freedom of Assembly.

It's too bad. I wonder if

It's too bad. I wonder if that monster who raped the 11-year old is the reason the city will fall back on.

Based on the rhetoric in certain online discussion forums it's a wonder those in Olympia who are hatefully anti-homeless aren't up in arms wanting all religious leaders, or at least the Catholics, driven out of town.

Hey Merwyn..

ThanksThis is important

Thanks

This is important enough and urgent enough. Plus I'm mad enough. Also I never stopped lurking, how else was I going to keep up on what's happening, listen to KGY?

Maybe we can have a couple good months before I'm informed again that diverse opinions are at worst trolls, at best sports bloggers.

I visited the camp last night after work, ran into Janet B and met Phil. Wasn't mugged, wasn't threatened, wasn't insulted or abused, and a couple hours later even heard some good music.

Keep us updated! I hate

Keep us updated!

I hate being a chickenshit but in my present "state" I don't want to run into any arrest troubles. I was pushing it at the port protests and I'd rather not push my luck any further.

I hope all goes well, stay safe.

not chickenshit

Norm, you are not being a chickenshit. We all have different roles to play, there is room for all of us. We each have to sort out what we can and cannot do to the best of our abilities.

What's with the City? First

What's with the City? First you have Steve Hall bragging about all Olympia's "already done",

Then you have Laura Ware feeling betrayed that Camp Quixote's organizers didn't talk to her first. Betrayed? She votes for an ordinance practically outlawing a group of people and then feels betrayed that they don't get her permission to react!

As for the mayor, I don't know what kind of face he was wearing when he visited the camp, but to the paper he refered to them as a militant slice of the homeless population and said he wasn't impressed.

Well shoot...

After spending time in King county wandering the streets at 2 -5 am for the One Night Count project, with my primary role being documenting the homeless and the teams, I wonder if there's a need for photography on this? I can stop by there on my way to Shelton where I work with youth  - say around 2:00-3:00 and come back round 6:30ish to see what if anything is left or if the Five-0 is rousting people who have nowhere else to go. If coverage is needed, let me know and I'm ON the mofo - this would not be on the side of the police or enforcement either. It'll make them look bad and I'm aware of the consequences - I'm also tear gas proof, should it come to that, unlikely though it may be. Say the word and I'm rolling.

what do you expect or want the city to do?

State your goals, and then out-think them--

them=the city?
you=you? or me?!

Blatant taunting of bears will get you bitten! what do you expect out of "them"...

denial of service is denial of service--

I am underserved by my municipal government as well, so what are we gonna do about it?

Taunting the city folks will not resolve anything and will only make the Union look bad--

maybe TESC &/or St. Martins can intervene and host a peace-in? can't each student host a "guest"? max out the showers, hit the laundry, get some chow! make a nice time for any kids that are caught-up in this silly "adult" game!
