Dead on. If Bush is this bad

Dead on. If Bush is this bad now, what is he going to do after the midterms when he doesn't have to worry about elections and his party?

Good night and good luck.

Strange how things are taking on such a strong McCarthyist flavor these days. This commentary reminds me a bit of Edward Murrow's pointed criticisms of the infamous "anti-communist" senator.

"A prophet or a quack"

I just watched another video on youtube in which Olberman dresses down Donald Rumsfeld over his "fascism" rhetoric. He actually quotes Murrow, and ends the commentary with Murrow's tagline: "Good night and good luck". I think Olberman is my new hero.

Dear God... I almost just thought to myself. "I need to watch more tv..."

I've had that thought...

...too. Scary.

Olberman = O'Rielly = Cafferty = Coulter = Partisan Hack

Every once in awhile, Olberman calms down enough to say something like this, which is reasoned, logical commentary. Normally, I write him off just like I write off Coulter, Cafferty, Limbaugh, and O'Rielly. We should not heroize any of them. It should not be the media that we rely on for inspiration, in a democracy, it should be our elected representatives.

I got curious about Olberman

I got curious about Olberman after these two videos... honestly I'd never seen his show before. So I watched a few more videos, like his shots at O'Reilly and one of him smashing an Ann Coulter doll. These were very funny, but frankly in bad taste. Also unbecoming of a journalist. Olberman should leave comedy to Stewart and Colbert.

I take back what I said about Olbert previously... I'll need to watch a little more to come to a sound opinion I think.  Nonetheless, his commentaries on Bush and Rumsfeld were incredible.

He had another good

He had another good commentary a while back, but I can't remember the date. It was about the Bush administration, though.

You're right. I think if he left more of his former "SportsCenter" self and ventured into suit-and-tie journalism, he would be well-served.

"People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people."

Olbermann Helped Me Quit Smoking

I heard a story about Olbermann. After Peter Jennings died, Olbe did a tribute for him, including telling a story about his own hardships with tobacco. He told of how he was very sick at one time, coughing up and spitting blood as a result of his tobacco use.

When the show was over, his producer (or some manager type - I can't remember exactly) came into the studio and dressed him down in front of the whole crew. He told Olbe that he didn't care if Olbe didn't show up for work the next day etc. He went ballistic on the guy for doing a tribute to Peter Jennings, after Jennings died of smoking related lung disease (cancer I believe.)

That was the straw that broke the camel's back. I emptied my pouch of tobacco into the trash right then and there, lighter and all. I smoked daily for 11 and 1/2 years. Life is better without a smoking habit.
