That ferris wheel picture is

That ferris wheel picture is really gorgeous. I have such a fondness for carnivals and it makes me sad that no matter how hard I try I can't enjoy Lakefair for some reason.  From a distance it looks so fun and fanciful but when I get up close I get overwhelmed with "bad vibes" for lack of a better term.

Beautiful

Ferris wheel photo is gorgeous. But I don't enjoy Lakefair either, in all the time I've lived here, I've only attended one Lakefair parade. I'm spoiled by the Procession of the Species. My kind of parade.

I used to always take in the fireworks over the FOTD. I especially enjoyed walking back home afterwards with the flow of other folks on foot, nice sense of community. This year I just wasn't into the boom of fireworks and all the people.

Might I recommend the

Might I recommend the Thurston County Fair? It is much more wholesome. Much more about community and education and straight-up fun than spending gads of money on a stomache ache and some chintzy toys.

Pretty ferris wheel but it

Pretty ferris wheel, yes, but it was a wee bit scary in the midst of it. I will never understand why people say that "greeners" and "hippies" are the scary ones! lol

Lakefair

Thanks for all the lovely comments on my photo! This was my first Lakefair having moved to the Oly area only two years ago. As a newcomer to the festivities I have to say my nephew and I had a brilliant time - we ate the requisite fair food and then sat in the shade and listened to a great band while waiting for the fireworks to begin. We had great seats for the fireworks and all in all had a marvelous time. I can't see spending an entire day there though as once you've been through the vendors and the midway, well you've really seen it all. Perhaps the organizers need to broaden the experience and make it more of a community effort somehow.
