Stormans to revisit Plan B after FDA ruling

Kevin Stormans, an owner of the store being targeted, Ralph's Thriftway, said his firm will review details of the FDA decision and talk about how it affects the business. The company's Bayview Thriftway is also a target of the boycott, although it doesn't have a pharmacy.

Stormans said he didn't know whether the fourth-generation company would change its policy on not stocking Plan B at Ralph's. Stormans has said he has moral objections to the birth-control drug, which the FDA describes as a contraceptive that prevents a fertilized egg from implanting in the womb rather than acting as an abortive agent.

In addition to the FDA, other regulators are closing in

The Pharmacy Board recently sent letters to the nine women who complained that their legal prescriptions for Plan B could not be filled at Ralph's, saying that the complaints seemed valid, and investigations would be initiated.  Rumor has it that the Pharmacy Board is drafting a much more contraception-friendly WAC to be introduced at the Pharmacy Board hearing on Thursday, August 31.  In addition to the expense of the boycott, Ralph's may be facing fines and/or loss of their pharmacy license if the Pharmacy Board decides they are in violation of pharmacy code.  I don't see how Ralph's can continue to refuse to stock if that "moral" decision is deemed "illegal."
