Well, that was interesting. Just returned, slightly dehydrated and a little tired, from the counter-demonstration on the Capitol Campus. First, nobody got hurt or arrested, so far as I know, so GOOD JOB EVERBODY!

There was a good turn-out of folks, and everybody more-or-less kept cool about the protest. Being there was enough to show them that they aren't welcome here, and there were a lot of Olympians there.

A grand total of 11 Nazis showed up. Pretty pathetic. They really need to make some new friends and get out more. This "nazi thing" really isn't working out too well.

I'm guessing here, but I's say there were between 150-200 counter-demonstrators present. Way more if you count dogs.

WSP out in force to protect the poor, helpless nazis from the big, bad group of hippies.

I chose to play the fool, as they say, by being a clown. We had some giant flags, and we worked out some chants. I brought some kazoos and the Hogan's Heros theme song so we could practice a bit. (Thank you, Pat (POLDF) for organizing that so well.) I think the clowning helped to lighten things up somewhat, and keep the whole thing in perspective.

For me, the most effective thing that I witnessed was the dancing. I wish that there had been more music and less talking. It is no use talking to the nazis, and no real new information to share with the protestors, so why not spin some tunes and do a little funky clown action. I mean, dancing is the antithesis to hate and anger. REMEMBER FOR NEXT TIME: bring a loud sound system to get people moving.

I'm sure we'll be breaking it down more at the BroHo tonight. See y'all there.

Sad

Justin Boyer, John Brandt, Nigel Fovargue, Shawn Stuart, Jim Ramm, Gary Nemeth, Britney,  and a few other guys.

So......sad. I can't even bring myself to make a joke at their expense.

Smile
Later edit: adjusted the name list, one Nazi in particular is not fond of me.

Way to Manifest NO NAZI'S Olympia!!

I went up to the Capitol today and the immediate feeling I got was--wow, we manifested NO NAZI'S!  Way to go Olympia!

If it weren't for the State Patrol I might not have seen them.

And, yes, I agree, Rick...dancing and playing the music was the best!  I couldn't even hear them!

Does anyone know how many state patrol there were??

About 275

This report says about 275 state patrol "on hand".
"We're really proud of the community and the way they handled themselves," patrol Sgt. Monica Hunter said. "We couldn't have asked for any better than we got.

500 counter protesters...

...wow.

This was so the Olympia Way

I could not have predicted a better greeting for the Nazis.  After all the discussion, the back and forth, the wailing and gnashing of teeth, when it was all said and done, the community came up with the perfect response to the Nazis.  I trust this community and i don't give away that trust readily.  Will the community do the same thing the next time the Nazis show up?  Probably not.  But I know I trust this community.  That is the Olympia Way.  I can trust in elegence, humanity, and something verging on perfection in her response.  I know she is not predictable but she will always be me.  The Olympia Way, a very powerful force, to be sure, only to be used for good.  As a side issue, I'm wondering how much the state spent "protecting" the Nazis vs. how much was spent "protecting" the port during the recent action against the war at the port.  I'm suspecting the state spent way more money, even factoring in a new fence.

There were less than a dozen

There were less than a dozen Nazis?

Honestly, if I were writing a story, it would be about a group of people who just promote the NSM to get a reaction out of everyone.

If you wanted to live like a quasi-celebrity, this would definately be the route to go.

Thank You Olympia

I slept a full 12 hours last night after I heard the rally outcome at Bro Ho. I am also so glad I prayed for you instead of going.

I did my mourning and prayer under a tree, Pagan style, in my yard. I closed my eyes and saw many colors before they all flooded together into one bright white light. I have no idea what I prayed for either. I left the outcome up to God. Then I heard about the outcome at Bro Ho. Now I know I had a lot of people praying with me to get a result that big.

Way to Go Olympia!!! ^@^

I Will Break Dance if You Teach Me

I had my left leg rebuilt from the knee down so I could use the break dancing exercise. I have mastered twisting to the ground again on both legs. I am still working with standing on one leg at a time. But I figure this: If I can walk the algae rocks in the Fetid Lake of Doom, and the mud and weeds, and the logs, for 2 hours, then I am ready to learn break dancing! Come to Bro Ho and show me next time. I don't care if I fall down. I slide down deer trails all the time. It just requires getting up again haha. Out there I use tree roots and branches. In Bro Ho, I might like a hand.

I have seen break dancers and I always wanted to learn. That dancing requires an enormous degree of agility and balance. Its almost like watching a combination of dance and gymnastics. I am probably not good enough, but I do love a challenge. I won't be there next week, but I will be there the following one. I won't wear a skirt either. I'll wear something to fall down in haha.^@^
