Watch this interview.

Mr. Deutsch tries to go beyond Ms. Coulter's divisiveness in this interview. If you listen to it from the standpoint of someone trying to really get to the bottom of the debate, and forget about who she is and what she has said in the past, there is insight to be gained. If you play her game of constantly dividing each other, then you learn nothing. I have learned, and this interview reenforces it, that we can gain nothing from playing the same game as our "opposition". Lakoff be damned. There is a better way.

The value of Lakoff...

...is important for not letting yourself (or your issue) be framed by someone else. So, even if you have no intention of using the techniques to express your ideas, you need to know about it so that you can respond effectively to other's framing of their issues.

I don't disagree with you, Rick

My problem with "Don't think of an elephant", is with Lakoff's advise to Dems to basically use the GOP's dirty tricks back against them. I own the book and have read it twice, it's a great primer for what's going on in politics, and both sides are doing it now. That means that people that want to work with others in order to really solve shit will have to fight against both sides. Lakoff's book was not about solving issues it was about getting elected and staying elected. That's the problem as I see it, politicians are so wrapped up in maintaining their seat, and fighting the opposition party, that we the people get left behind.

"He that would make his own liberty secure, must guard even his enemy from opposition; for if he violates this duty he establishes a precedent that will reach himself." - T.P.
