As the weather changes, I realize that I need to find fun places that are dry and warm to take my son to. The hands on museum is an obvious one, and I need to get a membership. Anyone know of any other cheap places that mix fun and stimulation and education?

I don't know what the price

I don't know what the price ranges are, but I really wish my parents would have introduced me to rock climbing at a younger age. I know the gym at alpine experience is impressive looking.

Heh, my bad Rob, I thought

Heh, my bad Rob, I thought your munchkin was a bit older. I helped out at an indoor climbing gym in spokane and we had a pre-school class come in the one day. It was amazing how well this young children overcame their fear of heights. I was seriously impressed. So maybe when he's a bit older.

I like taking the kids to

I like taking the kids to the Lacey library - the kid section is fantastic.  There are the Babygym/toddlergym/kindergym things through Olympia arts & rec.  $18.00 a month.  How old is your son?

Don't eschew the out doors

I believe that kids are part of the world and the seasons that rule them.  I think it would be a great disservice to our children to deprive them of the world in all of its seasons.  Bundle up, walk along Percival Landing, get cold, get wet.  Be part of the world.  Indoor activities are great, but children should not be entirely protected from the world.   The world is not something they need protecting from, the world is truly theirs.  Why would someone need protecting from what belongs to them? Enjoy the cold and wet, and a nice hot chocolate afterwards.

Oh man, nice response.

"If you are a dreamer, come in. If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar, a hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer. If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire, for we have some flax-golden tales to spin. Come in! Come in!"

I agree with you to a point

I agree with you to a point but sometimes it's just too damn cold, rainy and/or windy to deal with.  Do you have kids?  I do, and I can attest that sharing information like this with other parents is really useful.

Another great indoor idea is to create a network of friends who can host play-dates.  If you get a 3-5 families that like to participate that you trust, you can just have your kid go over to their friends house for a few hours . . . that's always fun to play with friends.

I don't do this often but the mall has a play structure at one end.  It's right next to Chuck-E-Cheese though and there is so much crap in the mall.

found this in the Olympian today

Some indoor activity for the winter.

We went to one at Barnes &

We went to one at Barnes & Noble and they read some Arthur books and then Arthur came out and took pictures.  It was really fun for the kids!

Olympia Library

The Olympia Library has a story time for all ages - Thursdays at 2pm is for 24 month olds.

I have a 15 month old and am coordinating a group to do creative dance in January once a week.  BabyJam.

Let me know if you're interested.
