Again, sorry to keep it going, but to be fair, a different perspective, from one of my favorite columnists ever (my cheek is bleeding).

Randomness
Submitted by Rick on Fri, 12/29/2006 - 10:37am.The claim about randomness is an old and tired meme. It reveals an unfamiliarity with evolutionary theory, and a deep uncuriosity about how the world works. Evolution is a highly non-random process of accrued complexity through the selection of randomly occurring mutations in relation to environmental constraints. This two stage process is very selective, hence the name Natural Selection. Populations vary in many ways, and those tiny variances result in slight advantages over time, resulting in differential success in reproduction. Since evolution takes such a long time, it is hard for humans to conceptualize.

I don't understand why
Submitted by OperaGirl on Fri, 12/29/2006 - 12:08pm.I don't understand why people are always so worried about whether or not people believe in God. I really don't see it as any of my business. I was thinking about that this morning as we once again received some "Christian Literature" that we didn't ask for. And I completely disagree that it is "lazy" to be athiest. Give me a break.

Submitted by Rob Richards on Fri, 12/29/2006 - 1:06pm.Most of ol' Cal's column is pretty basic talking points and ideas that we've all heard forever. Not to kick a hornet's nest, but if we use Cal's logic, wouldn't it be intellectually lazy to simply give credit to a deity for everything?
"If the atheist is right and there is no God, there are no consequences. But if the atheist is wrong and there is a God and a Heaven for those who come to Him on His terms, and a Hell for those who reject Him, then that has the most important consequences."
or,
"You might a well believe, cause if you do and you're right you go to heaven, and if you're wrong, nothing happens."
This is the worst possible argument for believing over not-believing. To me, it completely devalues any point they may be attempting to make. If I were a religious person, I hope I would be religious because I loved my god, not because it was a safer bet.
