The movement to impeach the chief executors of the USA has never seemed more appropriate, more pertinent, than it now does. A group of citizens meets locally on a weekly basis to discuss and organize the impeachment of Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney.

Tom Engelhardt has published a new tomgram, an essay by David Swanson, which summarizes and illustrates the topic quite well. If you're interested, it's worth a read!

Impeachment Anyone?

The Case for Taking the Tape Off Our Mouths

By David Swanson
[This piece is based on seven new books on impeachment, all briefly discussed in a final note.]

Never before has the system of government established by the U.S. Constitution been as seriously threatened; never before has the built-in remedy for the sort of threat we face been as badly needed; never before have we had as good an opportunity to use that remedy exactly as it was intended.

...

An official censure by Congress would do nothing to compel the President to obey laws he chooses not to obey. Impeachment would do nothing. Only impeachment followed by removal from office will cure this cancer on the American political system. The current situation is exactly what the authors of the Constitution had in mind when they made impeachment and removal from office the means of protection against tyranny.

I'm thinking the chances are

I'm thinking the chances are slimmer than Kate Moss on a week of fasting. We'll have a new president around '08, and really, if we impeach Bush wouldn't Cheney then step up to the plate? Do you really think you could pull off impeaching BOTH? Then you have John Dennis Hastert if I'm not mistaken....yet another republican.

I agree that the chances for

I agree that the chances for impeachment and justice in these matters look very slight.  But everybody bet against the Soviet Union toppling under its own weight or the Berlin wall coming down, so if it is right, and you believe in it, then work on it without regard to how likely or unlikely it may be.

And anyway, Cheney is already at the plate.  They just let Bush strut around and mouth platitudes because Cheney doesn't like to look ridiculous and have to do that piece of the work.

omg

That's really fuckin' funny.  I love my politicians.

"If you are a dreamer, come in. If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar, a hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer. If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire, for we have some flax-golden tales to spin. Come in! Come in!"
