I am posting this as a blog entry and not an event, althought it is an event, because the date is undeterminable. In the best case scenario, this event won't take place, because no more troops need to die. But that is, unfortunately, not likely to be the case.

Next Day Commemoration
When: 4:30 PM the day AFTER the announcement that 3,000 US troops have been killed in Iraq
Where: Olympia , 4th Avenue Bridge
Who: 3000 people (each person will represent 1 US and over 200 Iraqi lives lost)
Come to the 4th Avenue Bridge in Olympia and bring your friends. Let's SHOW what it looks like to lose 3000 people and try to begin to grasp what losing 655,000 people is like as well.
The day after the 3000th US death in Iraq is posted in The Olympian, Veterans for Peace-Rachel Corrie Chapter109 would like to assemble 3000 people in Olympia to create an image of what that number actually looks like. We can make a powerful, silent witness to our community. Similar events are planned in other cities like Tacoma and Seattle.
To achieve our goal of 3000 people at this event, we will need the participation of all those who believe it is important to reveal the human cost of this war. Please bring a flashlight and cover it with a white opaque cover, like a small sack or envelope. This will be more visible and safer than using candles.
Today the death toll was 2996 and we sadly expect to hear that the 3,000th American soldier has been killed in Iraq. The following day we will meet at 4:30 PM along the 4th Avenue Bridge in Olympia to begin this Commemoration. The 3,000th death should be highlighted on local and national media. The daily count can also be found atwww.antiwar.com/casualties/ . It is the following day that this action will take place. For example, if the announcement is made on Dec 29, we meet at 4:30 PM Dec 30th; if the announcement comes at 6 PM Dec 30th, we'd meet at 4:30 PM on the 31st. This action will take place regardless of Holiday or weekend dates.
