I found a trash heap on Red Square today. It contained trash gathered, presumably, from the Evergreen woods. "ERC - the friends of the forest" say, "Please use a trash can."

Red Square Trash Heap

Please Use Trash Cans

I just asked myself if I would like to have trash dumped on me. My answer: no. What makes me think that the forest, which is silent and unable to speak for itself, would say anything different?

Though perhaps there are exceptions, when the product of the dumping contains nutrients for the forest to grow. But in the case of valuable nutrients it's not really "trash."

Those of us who participated

Those of us who participated in the OlyBlog Fetid Lake of Doom (aka Capitol Lake) cleanups last summer generated enough trash bags to overflow the trash bins. But, probably as opposed to those who cleaned up the TESC woods, we had an audience the entire time. Several walkers stopped to thank, or even help us. I wish we had some sort of t-shirt or something to help promote this blog while we were performing this volunteer duty. Anyway, the Evergroove folks who performed this public service in the woods of Cooper Point had no such audience and this was a great way to bring the crap back up to the public. Nice work. I hope it has an impact.
