So I emailed the city but no response yet concerning plans for this parcel. They are usually really good at answering questions right away. That's one of the things that impressed me about Oly. I suspect not much can or will be done about this. I would like the city to take into consideration the diminishing tree line(s) in Olympia. Without it, we basically look like Southern California with rain. I ventured out on this lovely day at lunchtime to grab a few shots so you can see what I'm referencing. Thanks. street sign ws

Anyone familiar with the lot set to be developed at Cooper Point Drive and Evergreen Park Drive SW (just off 101)? It is a 10+ acre plot that the Chevron station sits in front off. I am curious to see how many of those large trees they will remove. I hope to contact someone with the City to get an idea. I am sure it is to late too to try and save the area. It would be a shame if they remove all the trees.

I will however take a few photos of the lot to post here. Hopefully the before and afters won't be too dramatic...

Thanks.

Olympia is a place I always imagined could exist but didn't think it actually did.  It's small. weird, polite, old, beautiful, and quirky.  It's uniqueness is in danger though.  I feel that the wave from the north is barreling down on us.  How do we retain the open space and natural beauty of the city?  Is it too late?  Will development, money, and shortsightedness win again?

The following article set me off today.  I live near this parcel.  I enjoy seeing the trees as I got to work.  Yeah, it's all very selfish I guess.  I think others enjoy this scenery as well.  I'd like to see the city buy this and other pieces of land for parks or open space.  Can't the city planners see the aesthetic value in keeping Olympia green?

If anyone has got info on an organization either public or private that could purchase this parcel for all the citizenry let me know.  Thanks.

"Washington contains nearly two million acres of roadless areas in its nine million acres of national forest land. These roadless areas were protected under a rule adopted in 2001, after receiving broad public support from Washingtonians. In 2005, the Bush Administration repealed the 2001 Rule and replaced it with an optional Governor’s petition and rule-making process..."

Link.

Please make your voice heard and help protect Washington's National Forests.  I just got back from attending the meeting this evening.  Some very interesting and useful info is posted at the link above.  Just be sure to submit your comments by October 13.
