Here is where I finally 'fess up that I have too much on my plate already research wise, that my idea was a fine one, and that I'm keeping the suggestion lists. Yet reading through the Wikipedia definition of Conservatism was helpful, as was the little bit of poking around I was able to do. Even if we could convince Neo-Nazis to just stop doing anything for a full month, I'd still have all this historical reading to do. I can however still offer something: Political Compass. I took the test and I'm in the economic left - social libertarian direction of their compass. Back to what I actually am researching, I like this quote from the book Denying History: "The one thing an extremist needs more than anything else is an enemy. An external enemy clears away internal strife." Extremism, no matter of what flavor, can make it easier for us to dehumanize another. Once we dehumanize a person or a group of people it is that much easier to harm them. So, I'm not necessarily anti-conservative at all. Extremism is more specifically my concern.

"It's fine for society to be open about sex, but these days it's going too far."
Now, I can say I agree with this, and move slightly more toward authoritarianism (by .20 for those keeping score), but my agreement would signal a criticism of the commercialization of sex, not merely the depiction of it. I don't mind you writing erotica, but porn is (if you think about it) depressing and shallow and ultimately harmful to many workers who produce it, and more who consume it.
I don't think that having a nuanced view of sexual depiction is either authoritarian or libertarian. I think that the commercialization of sex (and the attendant overfocus on it) is not working for most people - who do not look anything like the 'sex objects' they are daily exposed to. Forgive the pun.
Just an example, you know - I think the overall effect (on truly political questions) is correct. It slotted me right in with Ghandi and Mandela and the Dalai Lama.
I'd rather be shearing Dolly the Llama though. Does that make me an authoritarian, or am I just feeling cold?
Back to the point. Why isn't there a neutral position on any of this? Isn't it valid to simply NOT CARE one way or the other? Isn't that measurable? Or should I just leave it blank?
