Minor rockfalls continued to spall from the extruding lava dome overnight.
From Mount Saint Helens update

I thought at first that "spall" really meant "spill" but I looked it up anyway, turns out it is my new word to learn today.
Spall are flakes of a material that are broken off a larger solid body.
Now I gotta figure out how to casually use it in a sentence.

"Sure ya did, but you left the kitchen all spall-mell, the floor unswept and you didn't even do the stove!"

"Well......spall! I can never do anything right around here!"
