Especially when it is blooming with algae. Some blue-green algae produces toxins, a.k.a. "bad shit", pets are especially at risk.

Should there be a public swimming beach at Heritage Park?: Info Sheet

Maybe but...

I was fine in the water over by Heritage Park and that little beach off Legion. But on the backside of the lake is a long concrete walkway into the water and a pool where the ducks go. I picked up something in that thick algae wading to shore and it was nasty. I didn't get it checked because I have prescription strength hydrocortisone. But it took a couple doses and we are talking BURN not just itch haha. I would get someone to check that algae. Its among the densest in the lake. I don't think it was duck poop either because I washed my legs off in a drinking fountain before I drove home.
