People around the world are now officially engaged in writing their hearts and brains and everything else out for the entire month of November. So brave are they, dedicated and diligent. Why, some would even say they are absolutely insane.

Each writer is dedicated to the challenge: 50,000-word novel in a month. Good, bad, indifferent.....the writing quality does not matter. This is all about cranking out the quantity. Which is quite a sneaky way to promote a certain truth about creativity: Do whatever it is, lots of it, rather than try to pre-edit before even putting pen to paper or brush to canvas.

Our own OlyBloggers are takin' one for the team. How can we support them? With constant prodding, questions, cheery obnoxious motivational speeches, stares of amazement, loans of laptops, lots of coffee and snacks, along with uproarious laughter. Be someone they can complain to, listen as they can talk through their mad dream of a plotless ode within a novel to starfish, hold their hands, and prevent them from nodding off over the keyboard.

The NaNoWriMo Oly Cheerleading Squad is now in operation.

Thanks Sarah! I can use all

Thanks Sarah! I can use all the cheerleading I can get.  Today I already finished my daily goal(atleast 2,000 words) and after lunch I might set up a blog devoted to the process.  I'm reading No Plot? No Problem right now and it's wonderful, such great nuggets of wisdom exploding the myths surrounding the creative process, I'd recommend it to anyone who finds themselves saying "I'd really like to write a novel someday".

No Plot? No Problem

I agree, that book is great!

Congrats on finishing daily goal! Imagine the sound of those pom-poms shaking and the cheering crowd during half time. Feel free to keep reporting in here or elsewhere on OlyBlog, because otherwise we will have to *poke* you til you confess how you are doing.

May the words flow.

I decided last night that

I decided last night that I'm going to do this, and I couldn't be more excited! I haven't yet started, but I just got back from work. We need coffee desperately, and then the gears will turn! And about the laptop loaning -- between Kiki and I we only have this one computer, so any leads on a laptop or word processor or something cheap/loanable for the month would be huuugely appreciated! We'll both be doing lots of longhand, I'm sure, but doing it digitally would obviously be a lot easier.

Go team!

Very cool, you two will have a blast. I don't have any leads on laptop loaning myself but will keep an ear out for any ideas.

I think some local coffeehouses should have laptops available for customers, maybe for a small fee or free, I bet they'd get a lot of interest.
