Update on Drew's Case

Drew Hendricks appeared in Thurston County Court at 3:30 pm today. He was arrested at 3:15 this morning at the Port of Olympia and is still in custody as of this writing. He is expected to be released at 7 pm. Drew is charged with 2nd degree trespass. He will be released on his own recognizance after his attorney verified his address. He is not required to pay bail. The judge restricted Drew from entering Port of Olympia property, at the request of the state. The judge did not specify how long this restriction would be in place.

Drew Hendricks is a committed Olympia CopWatch activist and host of Seeking Justice/Olympia CopWatch on Free Radio Olympia 98.5 Tuesdays at 5 pm. Drew is committed to keeping track of police activities and police violence, and CopWatch is the only organization that does so in the absence of a citizen review board in Olympia. Drew has covered many people's cases and their interactions with police, and police abuses in Olympia. Olympia, please return the favor and stand in support with Drew Hendricks now.

Sarah,Support Drew? Are you

Sarah, Support Drew? Are you kidding? He broke the damn law for christ's sake. No thanks and he deserves what's coming to him. This is a nation of laws, you don't get to pick and choose which ones to abide by just because you don't agree with something. Sheesh.

I'll support him

Yep, if all of you would simply let me know when his trial comes up, I'll be RIGHT there in the court room to cheer when they find him guilty. I will support his participation in the legal process to it's fullest.

NWarty, Norm--why are you so mean, angry and bitter sounding?

NWarty, Norm do you guys by any chance post nasty little comments in the olympian online? you really ought to leave Drew alone, and just in general try to be more nice.

NWNarmorty

It is clear that comments from these 2 yahoo's (Norm & NWarty) are orchestrated to seek the weakest link in our experiences of commonality discovered during dialogue. There is nothing resembling thought behind the comments, only vitriolic hyperbole meant to engeander outrage. Norm who seems everything worth ignoring and more, would press charges if hugged, and artyNW clearly passed the future prediction class knowing before any due process of law that Drew is guilty. Rather than cogently discuss an issue these guys beg the question and belie an acrimonious disbelief in the discovery of facts.

awwwwww

Do you not like it that I may not agree with every comment you post on a blog? I thought this was a place to read news and express our feelings. I'm sorry that you don't like my feelings. I feel that I put gobs of thought behind my comments, so I'm not sure why you aren't finding anything resembling thought. The pressing charges if hugged thing is kind of twisting my words though. I said I'd press charges in certain circumstances. If you were hugged by a creepy boss, wouldn't you at least THINK about pressing charges? I'm still thinking you just don't like my opinion behind this man's actions, and that's ok! Do you really have to call me a "yahoo" though for not agreeing with you or the poster of this comment. Isn't this a public blog? I live in Olympia, so I feel like I belong here. Once I find something interesting to blog about I plan on starting my own. Can't we just play nice?

Thanks Olyrickm, please

Thanks Olyrickm, please explain where I was a yahoo? By spelling my handle backwards, I think you can figure out who I am (or just ping my IP). I made my statement based off of what I read from here and at the O. Yep, just two sources. But knowing what Drew has written in the past, it's not suprising in the least that he was arrested. Yes Rick M, I enjoy a good discussion as brutish as I may come across to you. Even though I disagree with the other Rick on just about everything, even he and I can have a decent conversation in his other post regarding comments in the Olympia Online news sections. I don't speak in fancy terms Rick M, and I don't pass myself off as anywhere near an intellectual, but suddenly there is an outcropping of folks on this board who suddenly have a differing opinion than the majority here and some feathers get ruffled. Ya know what? Differing opinions are good in my opinion. WF was run off and I didn't necessarily agree with everything he said but it made for a much more interesting blog. If your going to call this place Oly blog, than expect a wide range of experiences and not some little bubble of liberal ideas (Yes I'm a Rep but vote both sides just for the record). Anyways...if I came across as a knucklehead Rick, I'm calling it how I see it. That's my opinion. And lastly, Sarah, my apologies for attacking you like that. I'm no fan of Drew and nor do I support him, but I shouldn't have come across like that.

Life over law

Upholding our laws of process by interrupting an illegal war is our duty as Americans, according to our own constitution. And thankfully, not all of us stop there. Many people consider the sanctity of life a higher law than laws that protect private property. I hope people continue to intercept and destroy machines that injure, maim, and kill people.

Ditto

Jade, you rock. I'm glad that I will not be the only one articulating this vision of a Republic, not an Empire, when I am (eventually?) composted in this watershed. We are, indeed, a nation of laws. The trouble is, the ones who make them are not following them. When this happens, they invite a war with us - the citizens of the world. They want this to be a war of arms, of terror (and indeed it is - they hold one of 138 Americans in our own country - 2.2 million people, the largest rate of incarceration in human history). But we must remember that they will win if it is a war of arms and terror. We must remember that to carry this forward we must not kill people to make our political points, but not flinch at doing so to protect our own lives. Some of us will die to protect our rights. Always was it ever so. I was asked on the Quay this morning where my line is, and that is it. I offer it to my community so that they may judge my intentions justly.

The fishwrapper stated that I had a "struggle" with the guard. We were not in physical direct contact at any time except as I walked toward the open gate to leave, and he body checked me to keep me there. We did not struggle or fight in the ordinary sense of that word.

Yes, I was arrested on appropriate probable cause for a deliberate civil disobedient act. I broke the law which says I cannot control that which I have paid to be brought into existence, which pretends to exist at my consent.

I no longer agree to pretend I consent to this American Empire. I am for the Republic. Where do you stand?
