The Southern Poverty Law Center has a web project Teaching Tolerance, they currently are running a helpful article Girls as Targets: Recent School Shootings.

Good info for all of us.

Reading through that brought

Reading through that brought me back to certain instances in my life. I was raised, for the most part, by a single mother, and never really felt shame in crying. Maybe crying for a stupid reason, but never when it actually meant something. I also remember seeing my Grandpa cry for the first time when I was a teenager, it was so strange to feel that sudden shock of, "Oh yeah, Grandpa is human."
 Anyone else?

I didn't think grown-ups cried at all

I thought you grew out of crying.  I didn't think grown-ups cried at all until I was six and my grandmother died suddenly.  My mother was in the kitchen, trying to do housework as usual, and she just kept breaking down and leaning over the stove and weeping.  I was totally stunned, mostly because I didn't believe it was possible for grown-ups to cry.  I couldn't have been more surprised if she had sprouted wings and flown.

I was definately taught that

I was definately taught that crying is something done in private.

I implore all of you to read

I implore all of you to read this cnn article:

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/10/06/amish.funeral.ap/index.html

It's sad that these events happend, but it took reading this article to actually get me choked up about it. If there is anything in this world that needs a little more attention, it's forgiveness.
