Go outside.

Walk through a park, a neighborhood, any place that enlivens you.

Breathe.

Music on iPod and gazing at flame orange maple trees optional, but advised.

Repeat as desired.

My mp3 player is full of public affairs programs!

What do I do then???

More Brilliant Advice

  • Don't Panic
  • Consider humming while you listen to the public affairs programs
  • Keep your mp3 player off but have headphones on so as to trick innocent bystanders into believing that you are listening to music, swaying from time to time helps pull this illusion off
  • Dump the public affairs and exchange for music
  • Invite a troubador along to provide a musical escort

A little fresh air can do a wonder of good...I think that's what I need right now.

Its Wise to Get Off Alone Too

I find I pick up a lot of people energy around town. Sometimes its energizing and sometimes its exhausting. I like natural areas and animals for seriously chilling. Its fun to get away from the people and just expose yourself to more pure energy. One of the reasons I am a blabbermouth is I do deprive myself about half the time of people haha. I slink around writing in natural areas alone and then rejoin the people to blabber. The natural areas relax me. The people are just enjoyable, but a little overstimulating.

Night writing these days is tough in Olympia. Its pretty much the piers unless I just find a bunch of trees in an overgrown greenspace and go out there with a flashlight. Daytime writing is easier. There are tons of overgrown areas at Capital Lake where you can hide and write. Also there is that huge expansive upper lake. Capital Lake itself is kind of the city part of the lake. It gets far more interesting when you venture down the Deschuttes River Parkway on foot. I've gone that way before. Its a long long walk but highly rewarding. I just need to find that short cut over to the Deschuttes River Falls. Those are spectacular in Fall. It makes me want to go out and jump the rocks in the river below the falls. I need to check the rules though. My dog is beginning to LIKE water! She loves running in the surf at the edge of the shoreline. She also seems to like rivers. She went wading in the one. I am waiting for a warm day before I take her into the fountain haha. Is that illegal? She likes the water now. But those weed blowers seriously freak her out. She saw someone with a weed blower and wouldn't let me walk near it. I had to walk in the gutter haha. I don't think they had weed blowers where she came from in the mountains near Randoll.

You can sneak backtrail in Priest Point Park too, at the far end, beyond all the manmade exercise trails and stairs for joggers. I don't like stairs. I'll take switchbacks and boulders any day over stairs. I also don't like concrete. My knees are deteriorating haha. Hugs, Crusty Christie
