I ponder-blogged (pondering and blogging at the same time) on the question Why Olympia? back in early May and Rick's post on Nazis and architecture revives that train of thought for me.
» We already know that the NSM is particularly fond of the noise enhancing properties of the granite steps. The architecture as a whole apparently also triggers Nazi yearnings. But what about that dome? 287 feet, one of the largest domes in the world built without steel support. What is the power of the dome? Some of us respond by dedicating ourselves further to serving our community. Some of us are inspired, some of us go to work, some of us feel giddy as we gaze way up. Perhaps Nazis return to dome shapes instinctively, thinking they are after good photo ops, but really just craving the power of the dome. Maybe we can send them postcards of our dome so they won't feel so lonely and confused.
