FRESNO, Calif. - John McCain is hoping to solve the country's energy crisis with cold hard cash. The presumed Republican nominee on Monday proposed a $300 million government prize to whoever can develop an automobile battery that far surpasses existing technology. The bounty would equate to $1 for every man, woman and child in the country, "a small price to pay for helping to break the back of our oil dependency," McCain said at Fresno State University.
I don't think I have to elaborate how this applies to Olympia's active green lifestyle and activism. Imagaine a government funded prize of this size to find a powerful, effective battery for electric or hybrid cars.
The battery should be wholly US made of US components IMHO. Too much technology is not being made within our borders anymore.
All this talk of Trader Joes finally got me to remember someting I picked up there once. Stroopwafels. Tasty little carmel filled mini waffels from the Netherlands.
I loved 'em. Ralphs has some stroopwafels, and very good ones, but they have different flavored carmel fillings, but no plain ones.
Anyone around here have basic stroopwafels? (Hint hint to the Euro dude with the store :-)
There are gobs of funny kitten pics online, often with humorous captions added to them. I love cats, just have no room for them on the boat. If you ever want to see this big dude packin' heat get all soft and squishy hand me a cat or kitten. :-)
So here is my pic to start off the thread...
Some 10 months after I made a down payment and paid the title prep fees, I have now received a purchase contract from Alaska for 4.7 acres of land. I have to notarize it and send it back. My monthy payments are a whopping $54 per month for the next 5 years if I drag it out that long. I owe about $2660.
Now I can seriously start plotting some things.
I am working on putting together another local open carry dinner. Due to popular demand on the OC board, it will be at Old School again. This would be the third such meet there. Clothing required, guns optional. Open minds a must.
Discussion on the topic here... I'll update here when a better idea of the date/time is reached. Until then feel free to chime in!
Here is the press release. At the end where he describes places illegal to carry, he is wrong about banks and places that serve liquor. It is legal to carry in banks, and also in places that serve liquor, provided that the portion of the establishment a person is in is not off limits to persons under 21.
City of Montesano Press Release (6/17/2008)
MAYOR VETOS MONTESANO PARKS ORDINANCE
On June 10, 2008 the City of Montesano passed a comprehensive 14-page Parks Ordinance with rules and regulations covering parks use. The Ordinance has been under study and review by the Parks Board and Parks Committee with a tremendous amount of public input for almost 2 years.
The Parks Board and Parks Committee tried very hard to maintain a consistency between Montesano School rules and Montesano City Parks rules. It was deemed to be in the best interest of the citizens of Montesano to keep the rules consistent.
