Anyone else realize Bombay was now Mumbai?

Me neither. Evidently local government has officially had the name changed since 1995 but national government wasn't keen on that one.

Guess they got with the program too, because this week was the first time I had heard "Mumbai" on every outlet.

Me

I did, awhile back I'd heard reference to Mumbai, looked it up. I had noticed that sometimes the city is called Bombay, sometimes Mumbai, I wasn't sure why til you wrote this.

I think I first heard the name Mumbai used in an interview with David Bowie, don't recall anything else he said though, heh.

I heard this awhile back but

I heard this awhile back but it wasn't until recently that I've heard more people use Mumbai over Bombay, I believe the first time I heard it was on BBC news.  Also would we call it Mummywood rather than Bollywood now?

of course not

That doesn't rhyme with an American city, and of course anything good overseas is only good when put into context with something we have here. They can call it anything they want, as long as they forget about making movies. ;)
