Austin Jenkins from NPR interviewed me for a story broadcast on KPLU about the new medical marijuana "60 day supply" limits set by the Washington State Department of Health as per the Legislature's direction to do so. Unfortunately, the DOH erred on the conservative side, and patients will likely suffer and continue to be arrested. The fifteen plant limit is too low for anyone but the best pot grower (certainly it strains the seriously ill patients who must grown their own medicine, or risk being taken advantage of by unscrupulous street dealers), and the twenty-four ounce dried pot limit is too low for those who ingest their medicine orally, rather than more traditional means, such as Vaporization or smoking.

Fortunately for me, Austin (being the good producer that he is) used the good quote I gave him, and none of the dorky stuff. Check out the Cannabis Defense Coalition for more information about helping patients who have been arrested and are facing trial!

Disabled Iraq War Veteran Aaron Birdle testifies in opposition to Washington State Dept of Health's vision of medical marijuana limits that constitute a 60 day supply. DOH had previously recommended 71 ounces, 99 plants, but retreated to 24 ounces, six mature plants (over 12 inches?) after Governor Gregoire's office intervened and told them to get input from law enforcement.

“What do I do for my remaining 18 ounces – the majority of the medicine I need? Oh I go to the black market. Oh, so now I’m giving all of my money to real criminals so this draft proposal which is going to put in a six plant limit is actually going to empower criminals.”

I thought I'd try my hand at fooling the locals, although I think this one is easy, let's see how many of you get it right away.

Where am I?

Whilst stopping to pickup some smoked king salmon from Sea Blossom Seafoods I caught this diggity performance of Gaelica playing a song to benefit the Rocky Prairie south of Olympia.

I needed to post this, to explain why I'm going to Napavine tomorrow morning, to vote for Cheryl Crist, who is challenging sitting incumbent Brian Baird for the party nomination to run for the 3rd Congressional District seat in the U.S. Congress. It is not an easy explanation for me to make.
