I've enjoyed watching the blogging medium as an organizer's tool.  In just a short time, users of this blog have rallied together to stand against unacceptable behaviors and attitudes in our community, and have worked to build our community.  Some of the efforts I've noted:
  • Rally against NSM recruitment activities
  • Protest and Boycott against Storman's Thriftway who refuses to carry Plan B
  • Violence, Racist and Hatred-promotiong Video gaming
  • Caimen awareness
  • Port Protests
  • Litter cleanup
Bloggers have also united in combining their community efforts (ie: Better South Sound, OlyArt, OlyNow, and OlyBlog). In my work, I help communities organize against substance abuse and violence, and I know that one of the greatest indicators of an operations failure to succeed is the lack of working together.  Another is a lack of understanding what attempts are already occuring to fight the issue at hand thus creating division and a weaker stance against the issue.  I urge all folks who want to attempt new iniatives to investigate what the current resources and needs are in order to maximize their efforts.

I really enjoyed Jade's question about what do you hope to get out of it (in response to the NSM visit this week).  We must look at what we want to achieve in order to know if we've made a difference.

It's been beautiful watching changed attitudes and beliefs, which is ultimatley what all stands are about.

This community makes me so proud

I am humbled to be a small part of this wonderful community.  I am proud to be among your numbers.  Though never attending The Evergreen State College, I feel that I am a true "greener".  This town is not the college and the college is not the town.  To be a greener is not to have a sheepskin from an institution but rather to be part of that which allows TESC to be what it is and have the influence that it does.  As a wiser person said, we are the children of the experiment that The Evergreen State College is.

"I would make it impossible for the covetous and avaricious to utterly impoverish the poor. The rich can take care of themselves."

There's more....

I think the first thing was the homeless awareness, and also there is now the 1360 petition. What else?
