I took my daughter to the Thurston Animal Services this morning so she could submit a volunteer application. The shelter is clean and today was well staffed.  There were a lot of baby kitties, and some beautiful dogs.  But anyways I digressed from the point of my post.

From the volunteer handbook, on the section entitled Foster Care Exotics I discovered the following:

Program Description: On occasion the shelter receives "exotic" animals which may not be able to find proper housing here at the shelter. Most commonly these include iguanas, boas, rabbits, pot-bellied pigs, caiman, birds and ferrets.
I kid you not. I'm glad our shelter is responsive to our community's current issues. The caiman problem deserves this level of attention. And thank you courageous volunteers who risk life and limb to help keep our community safe.  Stevenl this might be another ripe volunteer opportunity for you.

Whoa!

Are you kidding? This is so incredible! And just imagine, Stevenl can do community service to atone for all those zillions of caimans he released into the FLOD.

Though....if someone fosters both a caiman and a pot-bellied pig, eventually they are going to only have one foster pet....a plump caiman, right?

Don't be silly, it wasn't

Don't be silly, it wasn't zillions. It wasn't even millions. You'll scare people talking like that. The caiman problem is frightening enough as it is without inflating the numbers. As far as making amends for my little error in thinking I was doing the world a favor by releasing those critters into the FLOD, I fully expect to be on the front lines when the final battle takes place.

Okay

Okay, okay, I've been told to stop with the zillions talk. In fact, I've been told to hush up about the caimans altogether. (What camp am I in right now? They keep hiding the sign from me.)

As for the front lines, we are running short of knee pads and chest plates. We have plenty of helmets. Remember to send in your monthly cash (unmarked bills) donation to: Front Lines Against Caimans Inc.

I actually just adopted a

I actually just adopted a caiman the other day. I just couldn't help myself...he seemed nice enough.
»

No!

They all pretend to be nice at first, then their true nature emerges once they have you under their claws!

You should get a nutria

You should get a nutria squeaky toy for it, and a stainless steel binky, and some chain-mail swaddling. So cute!
»

Now

Now I really really want one of my very own! This could be a new Oly cooperative business enterprise, fitting out pet caimans in all the latest caiman accessories.

Can anyone good with photoshop create Meta's image for us?
»

I actually believe in

I actually believe in attachement caiman parenting so my caiman will spend much of it's time in a chain-mail sling (that's gonna leave a mark for sure!) No prams for my caiman!
»

Hmm

Do you also believe in family bed sharing with your caiman?
»

Ewwwww

that just sounded so wrong.
»

Well, for some odd reason

Well, for some odd reason that I can't figure out...the caiman really likes to sleep next to the chicken coop.
»

Count

Don't count your chickens before they've hatched/been eaten. Isn' there a proverb like that?
»

Maybe...

You could help Meta through the adoption process. We think it would be a good strategy for her to have 2 caimens for her campaign trail.
