Court Halts WA Morning-After Pill RulesThe Associated Press SEATTLE — A federal judge has suspended Washington's requirement that pharmacists sell "morning-after" birth control pills. The injunction says pharmacists can refuse to sell the morning-after pill, referring a customer instead to a nearby source. It's part of a lawsuit by two pharmacists and a drugstore owner, who claim in a lawsuit that the state's birth-control sales rules violated their civil rights. The morning-after pill, sold as "Plan B," can dramatically lower the risk of pregnancy if taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex. Some critics consider the pill tantamount to abortion, although it has no effect on women who are pregnant. Be nice to each other!

The Correct Ruling
Submitted by Ehver Green on Thu, 11/08/2007 - 2:13pm.I agree with the ruling. It's not what I was expecting, though.
It's just an injunction yes?
Submitted by Guglielmo on Thu, 11/08/2007 - 2:32pm.Yes.

Submitted by eregular on Thu, 11/08/2007 - 4:40pm.I'm amazed our legal system is full of stuff like this. How can a pill that happens to be linked with womens reproductive rights supercede a pharmacists rights to sell it?
Plan B is full of side effects what if pharmacists feel that they are protecting women from bad side effects?
Side effects with Plan B® include nausea, abdominal pain, fatigue, headache, menstrual changes, dizziness, breast tenderness, vomiting, and diarrhea. Menstrual bleeding may be heavier or lighter, earlier or later after taking Plan B®.
If your period is more than a week late, pregnancy should be considered. Do not take Plan B® if you have undiagnosed vaginal bleeding or are allergic to levonorgestrel or any of the ingredients in Plan B®. Plan B® should not be used as routine birth control.

I know a girl who used to work at a pharmacy and her boss decided to stop selling it because they kept seeing the same few dozen women buying it. its called PLAN B not PLAN A!!!
I'm sure i'll get flamed, but i can't help but feel this is a huge waste of time...especially all those people out there with "boycott ralphs and bayview" signs. Why do "those people" waste their time? Aren't there far more important things to be concerned about? Do they honestly think plan B will not be sold in olympia because two stores excercise THEIR rights?
How can we have a battle of rights?!? We can't take rights away from stores, and I just don't see this as challenging "womens reproductive rights".
The judges descision is rational especially if you are one of the few people whose studied Constitution as I have.

Is it any coinsidence that this is a Bush nominee and that he sites "freedom of religion" as part of his ruling?
If his ruling is correct, that can mean that freedom of religion could abolish an law, regulation or limits placed on a business by a governmental juristiction.
When do we open the door for a bar owner to claim "freedom of religion" to serve minors for purposes of communion?
I'm afraid that the motive of this particular ruling is rather obvious.
Hold on...
Submitted by Tschida on Fri, 11/09/2007 - 9:27am.One of the great non sequiturs of the left is that, if the free market doesn't work perfectly, then it doesn't work at all-- and the government should step in.
