Check out Overdrive’s Digital Bookmobile at the Olympia Timberland Library

Event:
Fri, 05/04/2012 - 1:00pm - 5:00pm

A mighty big rig will be pulling into Olympia and parking for an afternoon, and the public is invited to check it out. The rig is the OverDrive Digital Bookmobile, a 74-foot-long semi-truck and trailer equipped with computers and mobile devices to demonstrate how to download Timberland Regional Library’s collection of electronic books, audiobooks, music, and video on a variety of digital devices.

The high-tech update of the traditional bookmobile will be open outside the Olympia Timberland Library, on 9th Avenue between Franklin and Adams, from 1 to 5 p.m. on Friday, May 4th.

Visitors will have a chance to see how books are checked out on devices such as the iPhone, Kindle, Nook, Sony Reader, BlackBerry and Android tablets. Staff from Timberland Regional Library, the Olympia Timberland Library and Overdrive will be on hand to welcome people and help them navigate the digital bookmobile’s Gadget Gallery, Audiobook Alley, the eBook Experience, Digital Catalog and Video Lounge.

OverDrive is a major distributor of downloadable electronic media to libraries. The Cleveland-based company is bringing its Digital Bookmobile National Tour to only three cities in Washington—Lynden, Spokane and Olympia. The library applied for a spot on the tour in early March. The OverDrive Digital Bookmobile website is www.digitalbookmobile.com/

The address of the Olympia Timberland Library is 313 8th Avenue SE. For more information, please contact the library at (360) 352-0595 or go to http://www.trl.org
