Checkpoint at Port of Tacoma

Checkpoint
Thursday, October 29, 2009
Check point at the intersection of Lincoln and Alexander, Port of Tacoma.

I tried to get a look at the military vehicles, which I presume are parked in a lot somewhere down this road, but I was denied passage on the road, which is public. The police officer at the scene told me that in order to pass I would need a Military ID, or a "TWICS" (Transportation Workers Identification Card).

...Police checkpoint on Alexander Avenue - a public thoroughfare ... only military ID cardholders and transportation workers with ID cards permitted to pass: What are they hiding and why?
Could it be so bad that they just don't want the public to see?

location: Intersection of Lincoln and Alexander Avenue at the Port of Tacoma, Washington

gonna sue?

Think that is a public road?

Where is the ICE? Have you been there?

Curious: drive or take the bus to Tacoma?

Perhaps the initiative process would be the "way to go"...

...put it on the ballot:

Should public ports be used for military purposes? Yes or No (I'd vote if that was out there).

The Road...

is public. I hadn't thought of suing, but if anyone wants to donate the money needed to sue, I would be open to that discussion. robertfwwhitlock at gmail dot com.

The Tacoma ICE facility is also located on the tideflats.

The AG

Well, if you were denied access and think it violates your civil liberties or the law in general, then by all means call the AG's office.

But personally I doubt it is illegal to control traffic in a port zone during military transports (post 9/11 & all the Patriot Act stuff), but then again I'm not legal counsel. I grew up in Tacoma and that is a trippy zone in the best of times.

Thanks for the CJ (it looks like it was a grey day when you were there).
