From http://www.horsesass.org/?p=4159

"Apparently, shamelessly racist smear campaigns aren’t limited to anonymous emails anymore, what with the Clark County Republican Party’s official website front-paging the “Barack Obama is a Muslim” hoax:

Obama takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim. […] It is reported that Obama swore his oath of office using the Koran and pictures have shown him standing for the Pledge but not reciting it and holding his hands to his side while others place their hands over their hearts.

This is chilling information about a candidate for the highest office in the Country especially given the radical Muslim claims that they will destroy American from “the inside”.

Really. I’m not making this up. Jon Devore gets the credit for exposing this pathetic attempt at swiftboating Obama, and just in case the Clark County GOP attempts to cover up their shameful hate-mongering, Jon’s captured a screen shot for posterity."

The article goes on to say the post was taken down from the Clark County GOP website. I'm not a  huge Obama fan but this kind of crap is totally lame in my book.

EDIT: UPDATE

To be fair, the Clark County GOP website has posted this:

Barack Obama Story Posted on This Website Removed for Factural Inaccuracies
01/22/08

Recently information which we received from various sources regarding the backgound of Presidential Candidate Barack Obama was posted to our website. This information was not properly researched and was found to have some factual errors and some exaggerations. It has always been our goal to fact check what we post to the website and to post accurate information. We apologize for not having done our due diligence in this situation.

.....

I guess that makes it a bit easier to swallow but geez.

Finally, here's some nice words about Senator Obama from former Govenor Kerrey, of Nebraska,:

Obama’s smarter and more talented than I ever was, and he has two things which are connected to his life experience that give him special capacity,” Kerrey recalled. “First, he is African American and can speak to underperforming Black youth in a way that no other candidate can. He gave a speech in Selma that was incredible, that no white person could ever give. No government program could ever do what Barack Obama can do.

“Second,” Kerrey continued, “his name is Barack Hussein Obama. I know that middle name is seen as a weakness by Republicans, but I don’t think it is. I think it enables him to speak to a billion Muslims around the world.”

Yeah...typical. No factually

Yeah...typical. No factually inaccurate things have been posted here...let alone even fewer apologies for uninformed news articles by volunteers. Those silly Republicans will never learn.

please support this statement

The ones I can think of off of the top of my head are some of the recent posts attempting to disprove "global warming." If you can think of more and then link to these stories it would be helpful so that these issues could possibly be addressed.

As far as trying to draw an analogy between OlyBlog and an official Republican party website...

No "cover up"

Let's see. They admitted the mistake, removed the inaccurate posting, and apologized for it. And with far less delay and excuse-making than that performed by those of CBS news. There was no attempt to "cover up".

Yoda addressed that...

I believe. At least, I read that in the update he posted. Of course, Yoda's was without the analogical fallacy you bring up in an attempt to make it look better. But hey, that's 2-for-2 in analogical fallacies so far on people defending the party's website.

analogical

I learned a new word.

I'm looking for an offical Democraic website in our state

that prints such thoughtful analysis as this one they posted about John Edwards: "From his $1,200 haircuts to his personal war on poverty, proclaimed from the porch of his 28,000-square-foot home..." Classy! Oh yeah...

The disingenuous part of this

Is that this silly story about Barack Hussein Obama has been debunked for a long time.  My wife grew up in Clark County (the rural part) and it is hilarious how they can buy into such fantasy as this and pretend to not know about their legislator from Battleground and his sexual escapades.  To each his own, but I don't think it's in your best interest to parade around a sex shop in drag lingere, when you are representing one of the Conservative strongholds of the state.  Of course, he DID travel to Spokane to enjoy his pleasures in public.

Let's take a less extreme look and get closer to home.  I live in the district represented by Gary Alexander and Richard DeBolt.  It includes a section of Thurston County and all of Lewis County.  Alexander is a fine man with credentials coming out of his ears, but read up on DeBolt.  He is up for re-election this year and it will be an uphill battle for his Democratic opposition.  I considered a run as an Independent, but I think that would do damage to the Dems attempt to bring sanity and ethics to this office.

DeBolt led a tax relief bill for his employer - TransAlta.  A year later, he appeared to be missing in action, right after the election, when TransAlta fired 600 workers with nothing more than phone messages left at their homes.  Sadly, because he retains (R) after his name, people will vote against their own interests, rather than look at what this man has done for their community.

There it is, folks - fact versus fiction and the Conservative side of the Republican Party.

They made it to Keith's Worser slot

Kudos Clark County GOP Damn that BillO for hogging the top spot every other day.

UPDATE!

"The US Office of Special Counsel - the independent federal agency responsible for enforcing a law banning civil service workers from engaging in political activism while performing their official duties - has launched investigations of two employees at one agency and one employee at another agency. All three are believed to have forwarded the erroneous chain e-mail about Obama from their government e-mail accounts.

Doing so would be a violation of the Hatch Act, a 1939 law designed to help protect career government employees and the government workforce from the influence of partisan politics. The act bans civil servants from taking "any active part" in political campaigns while on the job."

Story here.

....

The article even mentions our Clark County GOP website!

If you google Obama (at this point in time) you get these...

...search suggestions at the bottom of the page:

obama muslim obama abortion obama wife barack obama biography
obama full name hillary clinton john edwards 2008 presidential candidates

...does that mean it's the most searched for? Is upper left the number one position?

According to a Poltico story published in October 13, 2007:

"..."barack obama muslim” is the third most popular Google search for the presidential candidate's name,

behind “barack obama” and “barack obama biography,” according to Google Suggest, which tracks the frequency of word searches."

Story here: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1007/6314.html

...Is that now the number-one search?

A lot of the links go to pages debunking this heinous lie, thankfully. But one clicked on was terrible!

Here's a link to the bad one (scroll down): http://www.canadafreepress.com/2006/cover031006.htm

Anyway, this stuff is just terrible. That's all.

that just sucks

1 in 10 voters think Obama is Muslim

"Fourteen percent of Republicans, 10 percent of Democrats and 8 percent of independents mistakenly think he is Muslim, according to a survey by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center. Just over half of each group correctly identified him as Christian, while about a third said they don't know his religion." - Story here.
