Wouldn't that make it a "meta-co-op"? Whatever you call it, this could this be the solution to the problem which seems to face the Olympia Food Co-op at present; namely, that it will potentially be inhabiting a space that is roughly twice as large as it can fill. A meta-co-op could provide an organizational structure within which negotiations and agreements could be made among local co-ops who would like to join in the rehabilitiation of the post-Safeway building in downtown Olympia. A whole bunch of co-ops under a single roof!

Just a thought.

Coop expansion?

I've always felt the population of Olympia could support a larger food coop - I'm sure the folks at the coop have done more research than me but based on population sizes, we could definitely support a bigger coop. I compared our city size to Bellingham and Port Townsend which have REALLY nice coops:

  Population
Bellingham 74770
Port Townsend 8334
Olympia Only 42514
Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater 86438

Totally..

We could easily support a huge co-op here in Oly.. If it had a nice big location downtown, it would be mobbed with shoppers all week long..

What other kinds of co-ops should we have?

For example: what about a co-op for beer, wine, and distilling supplies? Or pet supplies? Or gardening supplies? Any more?

When you think of the long and gloomy history of man, you will find more hideous crimes have been committed in the name of obedience than have ever been committed in the name of rebellion. -C.P. Snow
