OLYMPIA – Thurston County will accept tires, appliances, computers and other recyclable items for minimal or no cost at two Community Recycle Day events. The events will be held from
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on:

• Saturday, September 15 at the South Sound Speedway, 3720 183rd Ave. S.W. in Rochester.
• Saturday, September 22 at the Thurston County Fairgrounds lower parking lot, 3054 Carpenter Road S.E. near Lacey.
These events are for residential recycling only, not business recycling. The items do not need to be in working condition, unless they are being donated to Goodwill. If your item is working, you may want to consider giving it to someone you know or through the website: www.2good2toss.com.
To help cashiers at Community Recycle Days track inventory, residents should bring a tally sheet of items they are taking to the events. The tally sheet is available online at: www.co.thurston.wa.us/wwm (click on Recycling, then click on Community Recycle Days). The tally sheet is also included on the back page of the county’s latest edition of “Talkin’ Trash,” which has been mailed to all Thurston County households.

Items accepted for minimal rate:
• Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners: $15 each (four appliances per vehicle).
• Microwaves, TVs, computer monitors, laptop computers: $10 each.
• Computer CPUs, printers, scanners, fax machines, copiers under 50 lbs: $5 each.
• Stoves, washers/dryers, hot water tanks: $5 each (no dishwashers since most are made of mostly plastic and not metal)
• VCRs, DVD or CD players, stereos, speakers: $2 each.
• Tires: $2 each without rims, and $3 each with rims (passenger tires only).
• Tractor-sized tires: $10 (prices for larger tires will be determined on site by the vendor).
Items accepted for FREE:
• Scrap metal including de-valved propane tanks. No barbed wire, no motorized vehicles and no major vehicle parts (check with a scrap metal recycler or wrecking yard).
• Bicycles with or without tires.
• Electronics, such as: power tools, keyboards, computer mice, phones (including cell phones), and printed circuit boards.
• Small motors, such as chainsaws, weed-eaters and outboard boat motors.
• Push or riding lawnmowers.
• Flowerpots: 2-gallon or larger, clean and unbroken.
• Reusable items for Goodwill Industries, such as: working small kitchen appliances, kitchenware, small furniture, and clothing.
