We got a crock pot last November and before the New Year I must've made a dozen different batches of cranberries. I made a basic recipe the first time (like I always do when trying something new) and then tried little things until I got it right.

You need a bag of real cranberries. They're in season now, but you can freeze them for later. Pick through them and toss the icky looking ones down the disposal.

Dump them in the crockpot, along with two cups of sugar and a quarter-cup of water. Stir it up good, the sugar's not going to dissolve but you want the clumpiness distributed all around.

Put the lid on, turn it on high, and leave it alone for at least three hours.

Do NOT lift up the lid during this period. It's essential that none of the moisture escape.

After it cooks stir in a couple spoonfuls of Orange Marmalade. Eat it hot or let it gel.

Adding other fruits is fun but some (such as strawberries) interfere with the gelling.

If you're going to add craisins or any other dried fruit you'll want to use less sugar. I found that one out the hard way.

In case you've ever been curious, fresh cranberries don't pop or taste like a berry. They're almost like wood.

Please give me a second grace. Please give me a second face. I've fallen far down, the first time around, now I just sit on the ground in your way.
