While walking down 4th Ave yesterday, I noticed a gorgeous black crow toward the curb at an empty parking space. The crow hopped toward the road and quickly back as a car approached. The crow once again hopped toward the street, head tipped to gauge traffic, and skipped smartly across at first break.

Great story

I'm intrigued by urban wildlife, by all the life (often unseen) around and amongst us.

For the Birds

I enjoy watching them as well. Since the bird topic was brought up I thought perhaps some of you fellow animal lovers out there might want to take part in a Bird Count to help monitor North American bird populations that the National Audubon Society and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology are putting on, "The Great Backyard Bird Count", will be held the weekend of February 15th - 18th , you can even do it from home. For more info visit www.birdcount.org I hope it's ok to post links, this might not be "local news" but, the local birds might need out help, what better way to find out! Our story never grows old with new listeners.

Definitely okay

Definitely okay to post links like this, I've posted on The Great Backyard Bird Count too in the past. The Count is a great example of how local is often nested within global, all connected.

Smart Devils

Indeed!

Very intelligent!  Both Crows and their brothers Ravens are very bright birds.  Being scavengers they are important too!  One of the reasons they are Federally protected.

I saw a pair of

Raccoons a couple of weeks back down at percival landing as I was getting into my dinghy. They were getting shellfish, breaking them open and washing the meat off in the water. Very neat to see!

It is sort of unsettling

When a crow follows you when you are just walking down the street.

OlyBlog has many bird posts (no pun intended). Nice to see a topic of universal interest based on wonder.

LOL!! Loved the pun,

LOL!! Loved the pun, intended or not :)

Urban wildlife is a never ending source of wonder. Thank you for your comment.

I am facinated by the ducks, geese and other waterfowl

in the Scott Lake area.  I accidently flushed a huge heron out of the lake one day when I was fishing.  He was bright blue, about 3-4 feet tall and screamed at me as he flew away.
