DeFox America

FOX News Isn't News. It's a Political Operation.

I think this is a great video. Make sure to check out the part (at about 1:30) where Paul Weyrich says, "...our leverage in the elections...goes up as the voting populous goes down."

High voter turn out elections favor populist - environmental, progressive, common interest causes. So please, make sure to get your ballot in!

Anti-Fox = Pro Acorn?

Why do you have to be pro-Acorn if you're Anti-Fox? The split between fox & msnbc leaves nothing in between. Both blind in their own paths?

No kidding, without Fox News

No kidding, without Fox News I wouldn't have that handsome devil Shepard Smith to listen to...corny accent and all. Maybe even more importantly without MSNBC and ACORN what the hell am I supposed to do when I want to start a whorehouse with imported child sex slaves? It's a lose lose for everyone, keep them both around.

Diversity and Social Justice

I am reading a book right now by Diane J. Goodman called Promoting Diversity and Social Justice: Educating People from Privileged Groups.

It's chock full of compelling information about much that is currently taken for granted in our present day society. Here's a powerful passage, that I think can be aptly applied to the debate about ACORN and FOX. Diane J. Goodman:

Most broadly, social relations in this country are structured on the basis of a power-over model (Kreisberg, 1992; Eisler, 1987). This top-down model is characterized by inequality, ranking, domination, and intimidation. It fosters a dualistic, win-lose mentality and the belief that people need to compete for scarce resources. Coming out "on top" or "ahead" is the primary measure of personal value. People assume that dominating others is natural, normal, inevitable, and desirable. Therefore, this view erodes the possibility of investment in fundamental change or true social justice. ...
The author goes on to describe the structures and values of mainstream culture that play into systematic inequality and oppression, including a belief in meritocracy. It's an important topic. I'd love to get into it more with people. I think we have a lot of proglems in terms of how we measure merit in our society. For example, it seems that sometimes merit is even measured by peoples' willingness to put others down, or to take without asking - these are considered signs of strength. So, there's a lot to discuss about this. That's for sure.
