No Rob, I posted an entire comment demonstrating... Why she is not qualified. However the "Access Denied" fault showed up again. Odd how that keeps happening, not to mention how awfully convenient for some I suppose. I will rewrite my comments again. Perhaps someone somewhere would actually fix this 'issue' with the blog so people can have an actual discussion. But... I doubt it. For now if you want to 'see' Meta's qualifications, go to her site and look at all the 'candidates' who have endorsed her. You will note the lack of any actual leadership experience offered on her own site. Don't take my word for it or Rob's word for the opposite. Rob won't read Mah's web site, so why don't you. Make an actual informed decision. C.

Tsch...

You can only explain why you think Meta is not qualified, but you cannot really demonstrate the truth of the matter. As for the websites, I've been there. Better yet, I've spoken a great deal with Meta and am convinced she would do a fine job as mayor. Doug has revealed himself to be an adequate counsel member and someone who is all-too-interested in playing it safe. Too safe. His answer to the Olympian question about his top campaign contributors demonstrated his unhealthy attachment to playing it safe. Instead of listing off his contributors from the real estate and development community, he hemmed and hawed and then rattled off some endorsements. I prefer someone a bit more fearless and honest. That would be Meta.
»

You are welcome to your opinion.

That is really all that it is though. You can't demonstrate anything, because you have no idea what "experience" she has gained throughout life, only the experience you value. Not all of us use your grading scale. Even if she doesn't win the election, she has won quite a bit of respect in this small city, and it won't be the last you hear of her.

Indeed

I wanted to agree with you at least one more time today.

Wonderful!

I like it when you agree with me Jim! You did that because you actually agree though, right? Not just to pet my ego?

Tell me what makes her qualified to be the executive of the city

On her blog she has things like... Support local businesses. What does this mean? Does it mean finding a way to reduce the number of panhandlers loitering around begging for money? Does it mean reducing vandalism like graffiti? What does it mean exactly? Does it mean finding ways to make the port of Olympia a better fit for more maritime traffic including a better use for the Army and Air Force? I doubt it. Regularly gather stakeholders to re-vision the future of downtown. Who does she see as stakeholders? Business owners? Patrons? Who exactly and what vision is she trying to achieve? Build local capacity to produce food, provide city services and address emergency situations. Is she re-visioning an Olympia that has a diary and crop farm? Doesn't our city already offer services? Who is going to foot this bill? What experience dose she have to achieve these notions of re-visioning things? Any? Who has endorsed her other than some 'candidates' (other people who have not been elected to a variety of positions) Looking at her own website she offers no experience in leadership. No definitive positions on issues other than things like widening sidewalks, and says things like she wants to form relationships to achieve common goals. What goals? Whose goals? What is she even talking about? What does she stand for other than spending government (our) money to implement a bunch of green ideals, which perhaps not everyone would like to spend money on. She works or worked with Bread and Roses, as an 'Advocacy Program Coordinator' but offers no ideas, programs, or any other way to reduce homeless people being in Olympia. What will she do to reduce the numbers of these people to next to nil? So again, what is it that makes her qualified? C.

That's a whole lot of questions

That you don't care about the answers to. I think I'll just let her respond if she wants to. You know what, you win. OK? You win. Congratulations.

How would you know what I care about? Have you ever asked?

The city doesn't win if we have an elected government that say, doesn't support our military and wants to protest the military passing through our port. Guys like TJ Johnson are a disgrace, and I don't recall seeing or hearing Meta say where she stands on the issue. And that is only one. So don't tell me I don't care about the answers to what I asked. Perhaps you're just angry that I asked the questions, doubted she has any qualifications to be mayor, and generally don't feel like your friend should be mayor? C.

Okay Tsch...

Are you sincerely considering voting for Meta? Considering your posts, I have a difficult time believing you are.

Also, Meta is not TJ. You are projecting. And if you listened to the Olympian forum, you'd know that she said the port's business is the port's business.

»

well,

Is there anything that could be said that would make you change your mind about who to vote for? I only have the tone of your posts to go by, and they sound pretty dead set anti-Meta.

I've received some Mah literature at my house that is just as vague as the things you point out about Meta's website. I could ask all of the same questions of Mah. Do candidates for office ever go into detail about how they're going to do the things they say they're going to do?

You bring up the port again, so I assume it's an important issue to you. Meta has said multiple times that she doesn't think it's any business of the council to block the military whether it be Navy ships or Army shipments. This issue has been politicized thanks to TJ's arrest and The Olympian's sensationalism, but what we really have here is an issue that has no relevance to the Olympia City Council.

Do candidates for office

Do candidates for office ever go into detail about how they're going to do the things they say they're going to do?

On occassion they do, against the fervent advise of their campaign managers.  Usually the details put people to sleep and make the candidate look wonky, bureaucratic, and boring.

If you would like to hear about the details, call or email Meta, or any other candidate for that matter.  Most candidates put their personal contact info on their campaign material (Meta did).  Meta's email address is metaformayor@gmail.com

You have a responsibility to be an informed voter, Tschida.  That takes a little one on one time with your candidates.

Mah's Website

He doesn't have a website.  Most everyone here knows why.

The matter of opinion works out the same on both sides.

»

But that's the point!

So why even argue about it? It's like arguing about the existence of God. Who the hell wins? It's no longer even a discussion, it's not asking questions, or trying to learn, it's trying to show others about someone's superior way of thinking about a subject that is not really tangible. I know that makes sense to you EG.
»

Absolutely...

...it makes sense.
»

No Mah website?

The only reason I can think for him to not have a website is because he underestimated his competition and thought he could phone in his campaign.

A Suggestion

Ask people to send you details about faults on Olyblog.  On the Access Denied page you need a "Report this Bug" link (then you need to capture the details back to a db).  Might be a good idea to add one just before the 'log out' link on the left menu.

Next, you may need to consider a new spam filter.  Seems the one you've got is garbage.

Actually, Sarah's wrong

Me and Guglielmo have been hacking into OlyBlog and making it hard for certain people (those who don't agree with us) to post.
