The Thurston Regional Planning Council has a great site jam packed with historical information, including this clickable map of downtown.

Next, run parcel searches through the Thurston Geodata Center .

By the time you are done, you will know where you are, where you were, where they were, what sort of soil those locations have, and lots more.

Wonderful! Great info, thanks

Wonderful! Great info, thanks for the link! There are, of course, enornmous gaps in the info provided. Like how in space 52 there was a real sleazy cafe/lounge called the Silver Dollar or something close. And if you were eating at the Spar across the street you could witness fights across 4th St. at your leisure. In these histories, I don't see any mention of "The Claw," or the "Tin Foil Man," or Bill Greenwood, or any of the characters that managed to poke a hole into Olympia's legendary smugness. There is a lot of life to fill the spaces between the lines in there.

Those stories sound great! I

Those stories sound great!

I somehow felt much more at home in Olympia when I began digging round into the history of the place, such as the fact that goats used to be tied up at Sylvester Park. Come into town, tie up your goat, go about your business. Sounds about right to me.

The goat thing is a bit befor

The goat thing is a bit before my time. Although I do remember Gov. Rosellini having free range sheep grazing on the lawn in front of the Executive Mansion.
