Too Late

Bush vetoed it already.
»

The goal is to get enough

The goal is to get enough congresspeople on board to override Bush's veto. Citizen participation is key. The pressure must be great.

I understand

I just don't think it will do any good, too divisive an issue.

Plus, not much is solved by politics anymore.

Don't forget your umbrella.

Apathy v. Realism

I think that if there were a truly impressive showing, say, 10,000 people were to show up and peaceably demonstrate their political aspirations for SCHIP - it would have an impact.

Maybe your view is realistic. Maybe the politicians just aren't interested in representing the constituency anymore. Maybe they aren't capable of standing up to Bush.

But maybe part of the reason that politics aren't working is because of the apathy that exists in society today. Perhaps if more of us were even just a little more pro-active it would be enough to make a difference...maybe it would be enough to get the ball rolling and then momentum might build on itself...

I wasn't able to make it to the rally though.

He is so such a moron. If

He is so such a moron. If you want to keep privatized medicine, then fine, don't let the kids suffer for an adult decision though. Never have I been more pissed at bush in his entire time in office.   Moron

Well met Captain Agenda!

Captain Non Sequitur, your one time nemesis turned ally, at your service. If, that is, you care about children after they have left the womb.

How does a poor mother win?

When the right-wingers veto expanded health coverage for children, they say "You shouldn't have children you can't afford to take care of." But when a woman tries to prevent having a child she can't afford to take care of, even by the relatively benign means of birth control, they call her a murderer and talk about the plans God has for her ova. Are rotten teeth and festering ear infections part of God's plan for the kids? If you're going to insist they be born, at least take some responsibility for being part of the village that raises them, would ya? Low income housing would be nice, too.

There are a few of we

There are a few of we Daddies out there too y'know :p Some of us are completely capable (or willing to learn) in the child upbringing and some of us are poor as dirt as well.
»

Daddies

Yes, daddies are great, but if Daddy's around, the kid is far less likely to be poor. Two incomes, y'know? In any case, 43% of children living in single mother households are poor, versus 9% for children who live with both parents. (Stats here.) Plus I don't think there's nearly so much pressure on men to bear children they can't afford to raise. Still, I'm glad we agree: Bush's veto should be overridden!

Sorry, my own issue there

Sorry, my own issue there coming out.

The way people are having to work, particularly depending on how many kids they have, I wonder if 2 incomes are going to be able to get by while still providing health insurance for the whole family.

I'll deal with you later.

Your confusing logic is no match for my bullet points.
