Two stories are currently running on the front of ESPN's website about two former high school quarterbacks who went to Iraq.
» I was going to offer up a little bit of my own psuedosociology, but I'm not quite sure how to word it. Here are the two pieces: Marine Staff Sgt. Abraham George Twitchell, 28, of Yelm, was among seven Marines killed Apr. 2 in Ar Ramadi when their 7-ton truck was rolled over in a flash flood. A 1996 Yelm High School graduate, he joined the Marines and became an armorer. He had been in Iraq only six weeks. Before leaving, he bought Valentines Day and birthday cards to send to his wife. A proud father, he doted on his family. Twitchell left behind his wife, Stephanie, stepsons Zack, 12, and Zane, 8, and the couple’s 8-month-old daughter, Makenzy. Father, Maurice and stepmother, Eileen, Twitchell. Mother, Mary Ann and stepfather, Ray, Ross. Five siblings. I linked to these two stories because you can substitute the cities for thousands of individuals in the Armed Forces with any city in the South Sound and be reading the same piece.

I remember the invasion
Submitted by security_six on Tue, 03/18/2008 - 9:57pm.Was working in downtown Seattle... folks new it was coming days ahead of time of course. People were warned to be more careful and alert, possible terrorism and all. I went home and up on REM's "Welcome to the Occupation"

Thanks for adding the local connection

Submitted by security_six on Wed, 03/19/2008 - 11:12pm.If you count Seattle as local enough. I was just remembering. I was doing sales downtown at the time. Interesting times to be in downtown Seattle, interesting times.
IIRC, I bought a revolver shortly after the first big gatherings recalling images of WTO.

Submitted by security_six on Thu, 03/20/2008 - 5:48pm.Last time I checked Seattle is not in Thurston County, and musings of what I was doing when I was living in Seattle probably don't meet the definition of hyperlocal.
