In 2002 SESAME, Students Educating Students About the Middle East, was created by students returning from Palestine after volunteering with the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) and in response the looming threat of war on Iraq. Rachel Corrie's death and the beginning of the occupation of Iraq occurred within days of each other. Since then SESAME has expanded to include solidarity, advocacy, education and action on issues surrounding racism, human rights and foreign policy.

Films about the Middle East, surrounding regions and the diaspora with guest speakers - film makers, veterans, political prisoners and artists. Topics include War and Resistance, Racial Profiling, Solidarity, Art, Refugees, and Identity.

The Friends of the Olympia Library will be having a two day book sale this weekend.

Saturday (February 9) from 10:00 to 4:00 and Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00.

If you are a member of the Friends there is a friends members presale from 8:00 to 10:00. This is a great booksale - paperbacks are .50 cents and all of the other books are $1.00, except for some special books which are specially priced. On Sunday only it's $3.00 for an entire bag of books. The bags are provided by the Friends.

What's really going on in our schools for GLBTQ kids?

A candid conversation about the school environment for GLBTQ youth, with local School District Representatives talking with us about diversity.

This meeting starts at 2:00 P.M. with introductions, announcements and social time, and the program will begin at 3:00 P.M.

PFLAG Olympia meets at First United Methodist Church 1224 Legion Way SE at Boundary Street in Olympia. Use the church's main entrance facing 5th Avenue. It is handicap-accessible.
