Capitol Lake, Olympia, WA

Hosted by Saint Martin's University in cooperation with Washington Dragon Boat Association.

Dragon boat racing dates back to fourth-century China to commemorate a famed poet, Qu Yuan, who threw himself in the Milo River to protest the political turmoil and suffering of the people at that time. Nowadays, dragon boat racing is primarily for fun and is festive in nature.

This will be the third dragon boat race at the Capitol Lake in Olympia. The event is expected to draw up to 1,000 spectators. Saint Martin's University is proud to be hosting the event with the cooperation of the Washington Dragon Boat Association.

Internationally known parent educator Jean Illsley Clarke will give a free presentation at South Puget Sound Community College’s Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts on April 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m

In "Connection or Control? Discipline with Time-In,” Illsley Clarke will discuss her theory of how children learn better with connection than they do with coercion. Also, she will explain how “time-in” offers four ways to discipline with connection and gives parents options when “time-out” does not work.

Those who attend are encouraged to bring a donation for the YWCA’s Other Bank. Recommended items include toiletries, cleaning products and paper goods. The donation collection is sponsored by the college’s Teachers of Tomorrow club.

Free parking is available in Lot A.
